  2. Creators Update

    Hi,

You could try to execute those programs with Compatibility mode... anyway, it would be better to contact the software house of each application and ask for a new version compatible with the latest build of Windows 10.

In the meantime, in order to prevent Creators Update from installing on your pc, you could follow these steps: How to prevent Windows 10 from installing the Creators Update • Pureinfotech

You should be able to get security updates with these ways.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Alby

If it was Pro you could defer features updates, but it's not so you can't.

The Creators Update is out now, to be followed by the Creators Fall Update in the autumn (as we call it in the UK). Personally I'd let it install. There was much in the Creators Update that's of little use to me, but I really appreciate some of the improvement to bits I do use.

If you really must block the Creators Fall Update, then wait for windows update to offer it then use the wushowhide tool to hide the update.

Hide or Show Windows Updates in Windows 10

Actually, if you're on the Anniversary Update at present you should be getting the Creators Update pushed your way any time now. You may want to hide that too - but as I said, I find it an improvement (I have a Toshiba laptop too).

Well, Microsoft graciously updated my computer to the creators update today. Curiously, they now name Windows Defender "Windows Defender Antivirus."I was under the impression it was already an anti-virus. Anyhow, that's a moot point since I'm using Norton Security. So far, computer seems normal. Time will tell if there are any glitches.

New creators update, how to prevent download?

Much like a car, if you don't do regular maintenance then it's likely to blow up on you. You can't just keep running the same OS without updates forever. There really isn't a good reason to NOT upgrade, since it's free, and it will keep your system more secure in the long run. There is a lot of fear of updates, but honestly, for the vast majority of people, updates happen without issue.

I'm curious... if the update isn't until fall, how do you know there's nothing there that interest you?

BTW, all major updates brings something to the table, even if you can't immediately see of feel them. Personally I think too many are paying way more attention to internet FUD than fact.

    My two cents.

I'd already read about what the update contained. I do agree with you that updates are important from a security point of view, and I've updated W10 every time one was available, without problems. So far, on 2nd day after update, all appears to be normal.

I don't know if this is related to the new creators update, but when my mouse cursor froze on the screen I had to perform a hard shut down. Upon restarting, another update immediately started and took several minutes to complete (I think it was a normal update, but will have to check that out).

Yes, it turned out to be a regular cumulative update, apparently unrelated to the Creator Update. The cursor freezing wasn't related. Did a malware scan and came up clean.

Most seniors don't have a clue how to update a new Windows 10 Version. They will click off any notifications they don't understand. e-mailing, surfing, shopping, and pics of the grandchildren is about all they do. They are going to be buried especially now with the twice a year version update. MS is shoving them to the side of the road... and saying, "If you ain't pc literate plus...get out of the way and shut your pc down old codgers."

Lot of old codgers with laptops, desktops with no one to help them. They have children afar or someone in the family who is a little knowledgeable, but doesn't have the time to help grandma and grandpa. Just saying...

Don't be cheeky! Many seniors like me are tech savvy.

You need to select Defer Updates to delay the Creators Update. You can further defer major Windows updates like the Creators Update using Group Policy –see Is CU now being forced on my system? Go to Administrative Templates \ Windows Components \ Windows Update \ Defer Feature Updates, set Enable then choose Current Branch for Business and Defer for 180 days.

  14. Well, I'm a tech-savvy senior too (wrote code for vacuum-tube machines), but your response does not address the problem. Most "seniors" have the home version, which does not permit the deferral described. And those who are not tech-savvy (seniors or not) hate things to change. Once they have made the effort to learn how to do things on their computer, it's traumatic to have things change under them through no action of their own.
This attitude from MS that they can change the way my computer works without my permission is really unacceptable to many people. Unfortunately, there are not any viable alternatives for this user group. Apple is too expensive, and Linux is just plain not usable for the non-techy.
I was a happy Windows user for many years, and considered Windows 7 to be a great system. I happily installed security updates and nothing else. Now all I feel is resentment and hatred for MS and its policies, but obviously their business model is focused on corporate and VR stuff, and to hell with everyone else.
I'm desperately trying to get Linux in shape to satisfy my household, but the prospect is pretty remote.

Why not just stay on Windows 7?
