Windows 10: New Dell Laptop, Time to Format and Reinstall?

There would be no reason to enable legacy support - unless you want to install in legacy MBR mode

Done and done. Easier and quicker than I expected. My point of reference is reinstalling Windows 7 on an HDD. . .hehe. Comparatively speaking, installing 10 is lightning quick. Figuring out the correct BIOS settings was a bit confusing for this dinosaur, but in the end I have the new laptop set up the way I prefer.

I was looking at some new laptops in a shop and did not see any COA stickers. Is that because MS knows the hardware details and therefore no longer needs a licence number/product key to be entered?

I am thinking of doing much the same as the OP but with an Asus ZenBook UX303LN which I have found at an attractive price in the UK.

 

As far as what you see in shops, I believe it's more likely the case that the manufacturer encodes a product key on the motherboard during manufacture rather than slap on a COA sticker. The tip to not need to enter a product key, if prompted to do so by WIn10 install, has more to do with a prior activation for that machine having been recorded on MS activation servers for the unique hardware hashid they calculated during the initial activation, finding an already established digital entitlement for that hardware set.
