    New Dell PC crashes network

    Hi,
Whenever I connect the Ethernet cable to my new Dell PC (Inspiron 3655, win 10, 64 bit), traffic goes up to about 50% without any application open and effectively crashes my home network (3 PCs). When I disconnect, everything goes back to normal.
I have installed Glasswire Network Security and it turns out that a content provider (Akamai.net) hogs my bandwidth. Apparently it corresponds with one or more of the many MS apps that are installed in win 10.
Can someone help me to indentify those apps so I can delete them and get rid of that annoying traffic?
    Thanks,
    Ed

    :)

is world of warcraft compatible with windows 10

I just bought a new PC from Dell with Windows 10 and none of my games work. WoW crashes. SWTOR has no mouse pointer and RIFT has no mouse and crashes. I am sending the PC back in hopes they can get me a Windows 8.1 machine.

WiFi adapter unstable after Update KB 3116900

Thank you for your quick response. Neither of these suggestion helped to resolve the problem.

If I use the Network trouble shooter it usually just resets the wireless adapter which will allow it to run for a few minutes and then it crashes again. I tried resetting the winsock as you described and that may have made it even less stable although it
is hard to tell. Currently I am using a USB wireless NIC and that seems to be working if that is of any help.

As I stated, this problem came up when I loaded in the new update yesterday. I have since uninstalled it and did a clean reboot. The problem has remained with the PC. I have a Dell Inspiron 17, the wireless NIC is a Dell 1704. The drive is Dell version 7.35.295.0,
I have verified that this is the latest driver and I also went to Dells website, pull the driver down and reinstalled it on the PC, uninstalled the NIC and reinstalled it. None of this has corrected the problem. I altered the security settings on my AP and
disabled security. When I did this the NIC stopped crashing but it also kept dropping the network.

If Glasswire is killing the network, remove it. Nothing should be packet flooding your network, unless there is some kind of malware causing it.

You do not need Network Security, since the firewall can be left disabled while behind your Gateway. Also Defender can be used in place of third party tools, since it is a lot more mature at this point.

I have no idea what bro67 is saying!
Glasswire does not kill the network, it just shows the traffic. Someone is hogging my traffic.

It is pretty straight forward what I stated. Not much else has to be stated, since it is as I stated and you stated the same reason that you are getting a Packet Flood when you used the software you stated that was installed.

Akamai.net servers are where Windows Updates come from. Your PCs are being checking and receiving updates.

Shouldn't I see the downloads when I look at Settings -> Updates?
When I check that it says that my PC is up to date and there's no downloading.
However, Glasswire shows over 50% usage and my network is at a standstill.

Did you remove the Dell crapware on your new Dell? Also, don't always believe that everything is up to date.

Disable glassware and use the Task manager Performance tab Network and see how much network activity is happening.

At present the network traffic is down to normal, go figure.
But you're right, there are several Dell apps installed.
Which ones can safely be uninstalled?

Personally I remove all Dell software, but I always do a clean install on a new computer.
