Windows 10: New drive for backup - all files not being copied over

I just bought a new larger external drive for backup. I connected it to my computer Windows 10 and it came up as drive D:. I had previously used another drive J: for backup. It still exists on my system. I'd like to use it for other purposes. I tried to change my drive for File History to the new drive and have Windows make a new backup of my entire system on the new drive D: and for the future update that backup. I'd eventually like to erase the J: drive . I think and reclaim the space for other things. Problem is that only a small portion of what is on my drives to be backed up is getting copied over to the new backup drive even though I clicked "Back up now". My question is how do I trigger a full backup?


A side note is that I might have in the past used the drive designation D: as a backup drive on this computer in years past.

how to copy files from the CD to the Computer drive

Hi Hankriegler,

I would suggest you to follow the steps below:

• 
  Press Windows key + X.
  
• 
  Click file explorer from the list.
  
• 
  Select the CD/DVD drive and hit Enter.
  
• 
  Select the files you want to copy from the CD/DVD, then select the drive where you want to paste or save.

Java.nio.file - Copying files

You can't copy a folder, thats why it generates an exception (you are trying to copy a folder using a copy file function).
You probably need to list all the files inside that folder and copy one by one

 

Backup taking way too long

If you are just backing up movie files to another hard drive (I mistakenly thought you were using an disk image type backup prog for full system back-up), I suggest just copying the files manually to the back-up drive. Just copy and paste.
