New error message and now an issue with playing video and sound

    Windows 10 version 1903

Hi there. This is my first post. I have a new issue and i would like to learn how to fix the issues myself if I can.

I recently started to get an error message that says 'Unhandled exception has occurred in your application' and 'Element not found (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070490). I've attached an attached image with full wording and also there is the error message given by netflix).

After seeing this error message when i turn on the laptop I discovered that I now have an issue with playing video on amazon prime, netflix, facebook. Youtube will still play a video, but without sound. In the bottom right hand corner there is now an x next to the speaker symbol and when i hover over it it says 'The audio service is not running'. I notice this is present only intermittently.

I've done a few google searches on this error message, but i'm reluctant to start attempting a fix til i know it's the right context for my issue so would be grateful for a bit of advice. I noticed that this started to happen the same day i had a zoom video call for work - there seemed to be an audio issue there and i fiddled with some settings in zoom to make it work. I'm not sure if that's related. I also recently started watching videos on amazon prime in the last week, and 3 weeks ago i installed malware bytes.

It's probably important to say i've tested playing video on my phone for fb, amazon prime and youtube, and works just fine on there, so it's not the internet connection that's at fault.

Would it be best to just wipe the system and reinstall windows? or is there an easier fix?

    Many thanks.

    :)

audio issues: VLC play a video with no sound and YouTube shows an error

If VLC plays a video with no sound (and you've it on), then either:

    • it's a problem with your video audio codec (reinstall VLC or codecs),
    • it's a problem with you sound drives; if so, reinstall them, upgrade or revert to stable once.

    If YouTube fails with:

    you need to should:

    • check for HTML5 compatibility issues,
    • try restarting your browser,
    • try different browser (e.g. Brave, Firefox, Waterfox, Epic, Opera, Safari, etc),
    • force browser to fallback to flash video playing,
    • reinstall/upgrade your Flash plugins,
    • try different sites such as Vimeo.
