    New Ethernet Cabling, no connection

    Hi,
I just had ethernet cabling done in my house from the router under the floorboards into my room which evidently doesn't work. Stupidly I didn't get the guy who did the job to check it and I don't want to call him out if it's just a software issue. He also installed a cable from the router into my parents room which works perfectly (have tried it with 2 computers). With these same 2 computers, the "network connections" "ethernet" flickers from "network cable unplugged" to "identifying" or "enabled" seemingly randomly every 5 seconds. It only stays on the "identifying" or "enabled" for a quarter of a second before going back to unplugged status.
So far I have tried with no success:
Changing cables (using ones which work with the other port)
    Changing the router port
changing the ipv4 ip address to 192.168.1.20 and 225.225.225.0, leaving gateway blank (the DNS option also was switched to manual, but I left that blank, not sure if that might be an issue)
leaving all ipv4 info as automatic
Updating drivers for networks in "device manger" (nothing updated because it said my stuff was up-to-date)

Like I said I'm open to try any suggestions, the guy can't come back until next week so I'd love to try and fix this issue myself before he has to come back. I've tried googling my problem but found most people with this issue had it fixed by updating drivers or their network was previously working. I have no guarantee that the hardware he installed wasn't faulty.

Edit: plugging straight into any of the router ports works perfectly so i can rule out the cable, the router and (I presume) my computer.
Edit 2: Have now tried changing link speed to 10 full duplex (and all other possibilities). No success
Thanks for reading. My ipconfig all is below.

  2. internet connection

For a long time I have been connected to internet using an Ethernet cable between my router and my desktop PC. Then something changed. Now I try to connect using Ethernet cable but I get prompted to plug in the Ethernet cable which is
already plugged in. Now I can only access internet by turning on wifi. and connect wirelessly. I've noticed this is much slower than using Ethernet connection. I have tried going back to a restore point I knew worked before this happened, I have reset my
router and my internet provider says there is service to my router. I have purchased a new Ethernet cable. None of these have resolved my issue. When I turn WiFi off and plug Ethernet cable into router and PC I lose internet connection. In control panel under
network connections it says Ethernet cable unplugged. How can I connect to internet using Ethernet cable directly to my router again?

  3. Windows Updates

Are you using an ethernet cable or wireless to connect your computer to the router? An ethernet cable connection is faster and more reliable for large downloads. An ethernet cable is an inexpensive purchase.

Not getting an IP from router. (169.XX.XX.XX)
Bro Check the cabling .. The cables are seated properly... Some where either a loose connection or Damaged cable.
How Far is your room from the Router.

I'm guessing that maybe one of the wires in the wall socket, assuming the engineer installed them, wasn't connected properly in the box, normally, assuming things are done similarly down under, then each wire would be pushed into probably a V shaped slot for each wire that cuts the insulation and thus makes contact with the conductor, worth taking the front off and having a look? May need to check both ends.
Whoever fitted the cable should really have checked it was working properly.

    New Ethernet Cabling, no connection

Thanks, bit nervous about opening up the socket but I'll give it a try.
My room's about 8 metres from the router
