  1. New files added go to bottom of folder, not sorted until refresh.

Hi, it seems the last week I've noticed my downloads folder is acting weird. Anything new gets dumped to the bottom of the folder and stays there until I refresh the folder. Once refreshed, the new items are organized as they are supposed to be; in this case, at the top of the folder. This is really pissing me off as I have to keep remembering to either scroll all the way down to see a new item, or hit f5 to bring them to the top.

I've made a video on this new behavior and I might have more details in the description.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HN8YhIpwSnY&feature=youtu.be

If I extract a file, it goes straight to the bottom of the folder. If I drag and drop something new, it too goes straight to the bottom of the folder. If I make a new folder, it goes to the bottom. If I download any file, it goes to the bottom. I have to manually refresh the folder to get these new items to be sorted properly. Why isn't it automatically sorting new items properly on it's own? - As it used to.

A little more context, I have the folder sorted by Date Modified, with folders displayed before files. Normally if I download a new .zip for example, it will be at the top of the file list, just under the folders. When extracted, the new folder will go to the very top of the list. Now, if I download a .zip while the downloads folder is open, it doesn't show up where it's supposed to. Instead it's all the way at the bottom. If I refresh the folder it gets sorted on top where it should be. Then if I extract the zip, the new folder won't be at the top as it's supposed to, it will be all the way at the freaking bottom. If i close the and reopen the folder, or otherwise refresh it, that new folder will now be at the top like it's supposed to.

It's like explorer is not auto refreshing. Except it is, in other places. It's just not doing it in a certain circumstance. I also tried my videos folder and it's the same behavior. I wondered if it had something to do with libraries. Get this though, if I open these folders from their locations on the drive, they work as they are supposed to. They don't work properly if I open them from shortcuts. So if I go Start>Downloads, I see this bullshit behavior. If I right click file explorer in task bar and open Downloads from there, I get this bullshit behavior. If I open a shortcut to the downloads folder from my desktop, I get this bullshit behavior. HOWEVER, if I navigate to the downloads folder myself (this pc>C>users>user>download) and open it, it works fine.

So ultimately, I have a problem with folder shortcuts? I guess. I don't understand it.

Gonna see if you guys have any ideas here before I nuke this install. Realllllllly don't feel like setting things up right now though, so I hope somebody knows what's up.

Sort by date added to folder

Hi there, thanks for your question.

In File Explorer, all sorting options can be viewed by following these steps:

    - Open the folder and right click inside of it, not on a file.

    - Go to Sort by > More.

This brings up a list of all possibilities of what to sort by. It doesn't look like there's an options for "date added to folder", but one of the other Date options may help, such as Date Created. You could create a copy of the file and move it in, so that
the date created matches the date added to the folder?

Please let me know if you need more information! Thanks!

  3. Sort by date added to folder

Sorry - it seems I'm not explaining myself well. I know I can add different columns, what I do not know is if there is a column that will allow you to sort by date added.

What I mean by that is:

Lets say that at 9am this morning I added the file cats.jpg to a folder that is full of pictures. Then at 3pm I added the file dogs.jpg. I now want to sort the folder by the date that the file was added. So it would list first dogs.jpg, then cats.jpg
and on through all the files. Note this is when added, rather than when created/modified/last accessed.

I've tried lots of different columns with date in them, and none of them seem to be doing what I need. I'm not sure if I'm missing something (because responses to this question suggest it can be done), or if it's actually not possible to know when a file
was added to a folder (as opposed to created).

    "Downloads" folder won't automatically refresh

    Hi guys,

I have my downloads folder sorted by "Date Added" (newest at the top) and whenever I download a new file, the file will always goes to the bottom (when I have the Downloads folder open as I click download). I then refresh the page and it goes to the top of the list, where it's supposed to be.

Is there a way to make the newly downloaded files go straight to the top of the list without having to refresh the downloads folder?

    Thanks in advance.
