Windows 10: New Gmail now generally available

We launched an Early Adopter Program (EAP) for the new Gmail in April to help businesses work safer, smarter, and more efficiently. We’re now making the new Gmail generally available so that more businesses can take advantage of its innovative features, like snooze, nudging, offline access, and more.

As announced in April, the new Gmail features a brand-new UI alongside several features designed to help you better manage your email (and your time). For example, in the new Gmail you can:

Snooze an email until you’re ready to reply.

Get reminded to follow up or respond to old emails.

Reply with a response automatically suggested based on the email you received.

Use Gmail offline, without the Chrome app.

Options for moving your users to the new Gmail

As a G Suite admin, you can migrate your users to the new Gmail at a pace that makes sense for your organization. Starting now, the following options are available in the Admin console:

Allow my users access to the new Gmail UI and features after August 21, 2018. Your users will stay on the legacy Gmail experience for four weeks. On August 21st, 2018, they’ll start seeing the option to try the new Gmail. If they don’t choose to opt in by September 18th, 2018, we’ll automatically migrate them to the new experience starting on that date (note that this migration may take a few days). They’ll continue to have the option to opt out of the new experience until October 16th, 2018. Soon after that date, they’ll be automatically transitioned to the new Gmail and lose the ability to opt out. [NOTE: This is the default setting if your organization did not participate in the EAP.]

Default my users to the new Gmail UI and features. Your users will be transitioned to the new Gmail as soon as you select and save this setting, but they’ll have the ability to opt out until October 16th, 2018. Soon after that date, they’ll be automatically transitioned to the new Gmail and lose the ability to opt out.

Option to opt out to be removed after October 16th, 2018

Soon after October 16th, 2018, any users who’ve opted out of the new Gmail will be automatically migrated to the new experience. They won’t be able to opt out after that date. Users who’ve already transitioned to the new Gmail will lose the ability to opt out as well.

A note about Gmail offline and confidential mode settings

Gmail offline will continue to have its own Admin console setting. If your organization participated in the new Gmail EAP, your setting for Gmail offline will remain the same. If you didn’t participate in the EAP, Gmail offline will be OFF by default; you’ll need to enable it in the Admin console.

Note that confidential mode is not yet available to G Suite; stay tuned for more information on the G Suite Updates blog when it launches to G Suite users.

Smart Compose will appear in the new Gmail

Email makes it easy to share information with just about anyone—friends, colleagues and family—but drafting a message can take some time. Last year, we introduced Smart Reply in Gmail to help you quickly reply to incoming emails. Today, we're announcing Smart Compose, a new feature powered by artificial intelligence, to help you draft emails from scratch, faster.

Draft emails quickly with confidence

From your greeting to your closing (and common phrases in between), Smart Compose suggests complete sentences in your emails so that you can draft them with ease. Because it operates in the background, you can write an email like you normally would, and Smart Compose will offer suggestions as you type. When you see a suggestion that you like, click the “tab” button to use it.

Smart Compose helps save you time by cutting back on repetitive writing, while reducing the chance of spelling and grammatical errors. It can even suggest relevant contextual phrases. For example, if it's Friday it may suggest "Have a great weekend!" as a closing phrase.

Get started

Over the next few weeks, Smart Compose will appear in the new Gmail for consumers, and will be made available for G Suite customers in the workplace in the coming months.

To get started, make sure you’ve enabled the new Gmail by going to Settings > “Try the new Gmail.” Next, go to the general tab in your settings, scroll down and enable “experimental access.” If you want to switch back, you can always uncheck the box.

Introducing Google Gmail Labs

Google is inviting Gmail users in the US and UK to participate in the testing of Gmail Labs. Launched today, the latest Google service brings a list of experimental new features that will eventually become part of Gmail. Gmail Labs is available now through the Settings/Labs page of your Gmail box.

The result of this loosely-directed chaos is 13 Labs features, with more on the way. Some of them we've found really useful, like Quick Links, which lets you save searches and any other views in Gmail. Kai and Julie wrote Superstars, which gives you different types of stars. Dave wrote Old Snakey, which lets you play an old school style computer game when you press "&". I'm just going to go out and say it: Old Snakey is probably a bad idea. But Dave wanted to do it, so Dave did it and anyone who uses Gmail can use it. And now you can help decide whether it's a good idea. That's the kind of thing that makes a project fun to work on.

GUIDE:How to transfer contacts from Microsoft Outlook to Gmail

I'm sitting here in the office, its the end of the year in the school system, and several employees transferring to alternative counties. With this it brings loads of transferring contacts to take with them from their company phone. Well, this one in particular sparked a guide idea. So here it is, How to transfer Outlook contacts to your Gmail account.

Step 1: Sign in to your outlook account.
step 2 In the top left hand corner click File > Import/Export > Export to file > Browse to desired place to save your file > export. Be sure you export the file as .csv (comma separated values)
Step 3 Log into your Gmail account
Step 4 Select 'Contacts' In the subsection you will see a 'Import' button on the right-hand side. Click it.
Step 5 Browse to the location where you saved it > Open it > Click Import.

I would have provided pictures, but I use neither Outlook or Gmail. Hope someone somewhere gets some use from this. *Toast :toast:
