Discus and support New incoming HEVC Main10 video no longer shows thumbnails in File Explorer in Windows 10 Network and Sharing to solve the problem; I've installed the HEVC Video Extensions on my Windows 10.     New incoming HEVC Main10 video no longer shows thumbnails in File Explorer


    I've installed the HEVC Video Extensions on my Windows 10. The installed version is 2.1.1161.0.I noticed that my HEVC Main10 video no longer shows thumbnails in File Explorer for new incoming files. It worked fine a few weeks ago.I found another PC with an older version of the extension 2.1.41.0 and it does show the thumb

    Windows File Explorer does not generate thumbnails for HEVC videos any more

    In the beginning of December 2018, I started to record video-clips with HEVC/H.265 codec. I realized immediately that there was no build-in support in Windows 10 for this codec. I found and installed the app “HEVC Video Extensions
    from Device Manufacturers” from Microsoft Store and everything worked fine. The HEVC video-clips was correctly displayed with thumbnails in the File Explorer. I could view video-clips with the Film and Photo apps.

    Just a few days ago I bought and installed the app "HEVC Video Extension" from Microsoft Store. This was a big mistake. The File Explorer does not generate thumbnails anymore, when I store new HEVC files in a folder. For the
    old files the thumbnails are shown. I guess that Microsoft has altered something in the interface from the first HEVC app to the next one. And File Explorer has not been update. Look at the picture, two mp4/HEVC clips. The left file is stored after the update
    and the right before.

    HEVC Videos in Windows Explorer

    The latest Windows version installed (22631.3593), yet the Explorer fails to show thumbnails for the newer type of video H.265, even with the latest HEVC video extension 2.1.1162.0. It shows generic thumbnails, depending on which app to play.

    Also, none if the Windows apps will show the videos correctly - all washed out. The only one that shows it correctly is VLC media player

    Many thanks for you reply. I have done all the steps you suggested, but no change,

    When I open a folder containing photos, some open correctly but the vast majority open with thumbnails, but they very quickly get overwritten and you can not longer see the thumbnails.

    Are there any more suggestions?
