    Audio and mic that was working yesterday fine, decided not to today after conjecture I download chome and the new version of edge.

    Laptop not splitting headset mic & audio?

    Hi
    Simple version. When i plug in my headset to my laptop windows10 is not splitting it into one output and one input.

    I fixed this years back by setting the popup box 'whats plugged in' from headphone to headset. Then it split the audio and mic. However i had to reinstall windows and now when i select headset it just mutes my laptop mic and audio manager just shows the one mic, but two audio outputs.

    It was working before the reset and i have tested the headset on another computer and it is working find.
    So far i tried device manage audio driver install, for both Realtek driver and High Definition driver but either resolve the issue.

    Any suggestions why windows would pick up one and not the other?

    I currently have it set to headphone plugged in so that i can use my laptop mic, but ive been told i sound really bad *Sad

    Via HD Audio - Sound and Mic not working


    I have Asus S400CA.
    I also had the same problem with mic not working.
    First went to device manager.
    uninstall all drivers in Audio inputs and outputs.
    Then go to sound, video game controllers.
    Select VIA HD Audio. There also uninstall the driver.
    Reboot Mic works.
    Now right click speaker icon on task bar and click playback devises. If you want speaker, select it as default or headphone as default. In 8.1, as soon as we insert headphone, a dialog used to appear and we can select. Here in 10, that does not happen.

    Regarding the software/drivers for the headphones... again, if there are none don't worry about it. I only asked to see if there were any. There aren't so that's a check box to check off.

    As for the headphones themselves Windows should recognize them as headphone/mic combo, but it could be a sound card driver issue. BTW most laptops have a soundcard panel. Did you check the one on your laptop (that's what you list as your PC)? You might look to the Control Panel for something like smart audio or something audio.
