Windows 10: New laptop and can't access photos due to permissions?

The fan in my old laptop was overheating and could not be replaced. I moved all my photos to an external hard drive and used permissions. I purchased a new laptop but can't access the photos on the hard drive. If i plug hard drive to old laptop, i can acess photos but this laptop won't last long.How do I gain access to the photos on the hard drive with my new laptop?

This might have caused due to:

  The Photos were not transferred properly.

  Due to Photos file were corrupt.

  May be due to Virus attack.

  The format of the Photo is not compatible with your phone.
  

Steps to be taken:

  Restart or Reboot the phone.

denied access to photos

They are photos I took and I have been using them and viewing them long before this computer change. For some reason half the permissions on half my photos, and some documents, had been changed when downloaded to this new laptop (using carbonite). However,
the computer where they had been transferred, is the same brand, style and both were windows 10 pro.

I am no expert, but I have enough knowledge of computers to understand how to get to the permission levels. Under those permissions it states "owner unknown". I don't know how or why they were changed.

In order to avoid long delays in a response - and to show what I have done - here are my steps:

• Properties
• security tab
• Advanced
• Under advanced settings - Owner states "unknown"

I can go through multiple steps, to change them one at a time, but that is too time consuming. There must be a way to allow me access to my files in my hard drive.

I suggest you to open Advanced User Accounts Control Panel to check if the user account you are referring to has administrative rights.

Follow the below steps.

• Press the Windows key and R from the keyboard to open the Run Command Dialog Box.
• Enter netplwiz. The following window lists all the existing user accounts along with the designated privileges.
  

You can make changes to the user accounts (including editing permissions).

Note: You will need to have admin permissions to perform editing of user profiles.
