Windows 10: New Laptop do I need another User Account as well as Admin thats on it

I agree with NavyLtCdr completely. Whilst the details can only be speculated about, you have not bought what you think you have bought.

Your best remedy depends on the circumstances of the purchase including the consumer protection laws in your country.

• Personally, I'd take the computer straight back to the seller and demand a full refund on the basis that the sale was invalid in the first place because it purported to be a new computer but was not.
• When I received the refund I would go to an honest seller for a replacement computer.
• I would also inform the local trading standards authorities.

Thanks for replying. I am not confident enough to go back and complain.
I went back the day after I bought it, first of all to query why the box was open.
As the receipt states it cannot be returned if the box is not sealed.
I asked if it had been used and they said no, they just want to help the customers !
There was a memory stick in the box, with hopefully the restore option on it.
Also I told them I hadn’t wanted it set up, as I like to do it myself.

I was basically told I should be grateful, as they normally charge £60 to set it up!
It was PC World UK.

Thanks. Did that but it still wont let me upload a picture A quick message popped up saying I don't have privileges

 

How large is the file size of the image?

If it's over the limit, it won't let you upload it.

 

Tried again is it here? That's what it said on the box when I bought it.

PC World UK are clearly lazy, incompetent & malicious.

• Nobody should set up a computer in the way they have set it up for you.
• I suspect this computer had been set up for another customer and then returned for some reason.
• PC World should have reset it before selling it again.
• I hope you got a discount on it.

It is up to you but I see your options as being fairly open.

• You can accept things as they are and proceed to reinstall Windows 10 [so you know where you are starting from], or
• You can accept things as they are and just start using the computer without knowing if its first purchaser installed anything malicious or otherwise to your detriment, or
• You can exercise your rights under the Consumer Protection & Sales of Good Acts to cancel the sale.

If you are going to reinstall Windows 10 then many people here can guide you through that. Just let us know what you are going to do.

I do no have a recovery drive on it but will it reset without?

It is a low spec laptop as only wanted it for internet and email, as have a desktop.

1 Before you do anything else, I think you need to complete some setting up - strange as that might now sound.

• I have been looking at your model & I understand that the purchase price includes a full year's subscription to Office365.
• I you intend to use Office365 at all then start doing so now as it will force you to register the installation & the start of the subscription [who knows if that would be included still if you reset it?]. Once it is registered, you are guaranteed being able to reinstall it afterwards.
• One of the others might correct me on this point as I might be being overly-cautious in this respect.

2 Yes, you can run the Reset [it is also described at: Reset Windows 10 Windows 10 Installation Upgrade Tutorials

• A Reset is, in effect, a reinstallation.
• Check that the computer is activated - Settings, Update, Activation.
  • If it is activated "with a digital licence" then fine as it will self-activate afterwards once you go back online.
  • If it is activated with any different terms being used then ask here so that one of the others can explain their significance.

• I suspect that you could save yourself some work by booting up from that recovery USB they gave you because that might have all the Asus hardware drivers on it already. It will also run a 'Reset' of some kind.
• This might be the only chance you get to test that the recovery USB works so the whole exercise could achieve something else worthwhile at the same time.
• However you do it you will want to check the Asus website for the latest drivers & run Windows update afterwards.

I hope you got a discount to reward you for all the work you are now having to do.

A rudimentary check of the PC by running CrystalDiskInfo will show the Power-on stats of the HDD/SDD.

A digital licence, likewise, would be odd for a new PC.

Worried about using the Recovery USB as my last laptop would not recover at all with the recovery dvds I created.
And is now dead.
But how do I use it Do I plug it in before I boot up the laptop?

On that page it makes no mention of the Laptop not having a recovery partition. Does it not need one?
So could I still do it that way? As I like that option.
As it is on my model number page.

 

Decided to go with the advice on the Asus page and reset the laptop from the Settings page
After a nail biting 3 hours it I finally reset yes!!!!

However it looks just the same as before with no windows after reset to create my profile.
Which I wanted
But at least its clean lol
Maybe it’s because I ticked the option save my files?
The reason I did that was because I read the other option took even longer

Still got the Admin Local Account Administrator.
So now need to add myself as a User and Administrator.
Only option in User Accounts is Family and Other people.
So can you lead e though this please?
Do I change Admin name to mine, or create another account?
Can I do it without a password so I have no sign in box?
