Windows 10: New laptop higher ping than old one, drivers from manufacturer are exe

I just got a new Asus vivobook laptop Windows 10, shockingly the ping is far worse than my old laptop. Pinging google.com gives 100+ ms while my old one, as it has for YEARS returns 10-11ms. This is the same network at the same time. In device manager, the realtek 8822ce wireless lan 802.11ac pci-e nic driver was last updated on 13/08/2020. On the manufacturer website here: TM420UA - Support it has a networking driver that seems newer. But its an exe file not inf. If I run it, it just makes a DRIVERS folder in C drive and puts files in there. But I cant select it in driver update, theres no inf file in it.

I still have the feeling that you're somehow pinging an address on a different continent.

If you have another device that gives you the proper ping time, you might try using the same IP address in the Ping command on the new laptop.

I personally use 1.1.1.1 [Cloudflare], and 8.8.8.8 [Google], as my primary and secondary DNS addresses, It does help with access here to the forums as We and many other companies and content providers use both Cloudflare and Google Services.

It may not solve your current issues as they seem to be driver related from your explanation, [ keep checking the driver supplier for a working update], but it should provide the best available from what you have available

Out of interest I tried a Ping to Sidney AU and got between 199ms & 272ms depending on the address used

I did notice that the original Realtek drivers for their wireless devices are considerably older than the ASUS ones - Back to 2017

It's quite common for a system manufacturer to "modify" the original code for their own purposes you could try the original wireless driver, but of course be sure you have a viable backup of the current working system
