Windows 10: New laptop no option to encrypt drive

Bought a New Lenovo laptop IdealPad 5 with an AMD 5625u CPU Ryzen model with Windows 11 home. Was surprised when I discovered it does not automatically encrypt the drive and in Privacy and Security there is no option to do so. Apparently, it also does not support Modern Standby which I read is needed for encryption in Windows 11 to work. TPM 2.0 is enabled and also Secure Boot.Did not notice any settings in Bios that would prevent this feature from working. I am assuming it has something to do with the CPU not having this available. I have read others who have similar experience with AMD and I

No option to select to encrypt Entire drive

It’s my internal SSD drive.

Yes, TPM and PIN. But before I always had an option to choose encrypt entire drive on my older laptop.

My old laptop was using TPM 1.2.

Now, I am using TPM 2.0 and maybe this new version of the TPM automatically encrypts Used Space only by default without the option for users to choose Entire drive encryption.

That’s just a theory only.

There is a Group Policy to set encryption mode to use Full drive only and see what happens.

 

Device Encryption not avaiable

I suggest you to perform below mentioned steps to disable BitLocker.

To disable BitLocker I would suggest you try the following steps and see if it helps.

  Press Windows key + X and click on
  Control Panel.
  
• 
  Change View by from Category
  to Large Icons/Small Icons.
  
• 
  Click on BitLocker Drive Encryption and click on
  Turn BitLocker Off.
  
• 
  Follow on screen instructions. Click on Decrypt the Drive
  when the message appears.
