I want to save time not updating anything on arrival and load the disk and go from there. Microsoft MFR# KW9-00140 Windows 10 64 bit. How do I activate, clean install, can I remove all partitions and make one also? Any details please respond with facts.

    TIA Mark

    Windows 10 Upgrade keys

I have a laptop which came with Win 7 Pro 32 bit OEM installed.

I have since replaced the hard disk with an SSD and installed my own Retail Win 7 Pro 64 bit with a license I purchased. I have upgraded my Win 7 Pro Retail 64 bit to Win 10 Pro 64 bit. Since the Win 7 license was retail I should be allowed to transfer
that Windows 10 Pro installation to another computer if I so choose. I have used a keyfinder script to determine the Key of the Win 10 64 Pro bit Retail installation, is this the key I will need to use if I wish to transfer this license to another PC? If not
    how do I do this?

Further I put back my original hard disk which had Win 7 Pro 32 bit OEM installed and upgraded to Win 10 Pro 32 bit. As the original license was OEM I realize this license is tied to the machine. However when using the keyfinder script I get the SAME key
that I got from my Win 10 64 bit Pro installation.

Another question I have is since the Win 7 Pro that shipped with my laptop was 32 bit, I upgraded to 32 bit Win 10 Pro, is it possible to then do a clean reinstall to put Win 10 Pro 64 bit on it? I ask since Win 7 OEM keys are tied to the version 32 or 64
    bit only, unlike retail.

So my concern is the following, If I choose to install Win 10 Pro on another machine, will it not invalidate the activation of my Win 10 Pro 32 bit that is installed on my original hard disk for my laptop?

As I have 2 copies of Windows 7, (1 OEM, 1 Retail), it seems to me that I should have 2 different Windows 10 keys. In the devices section of my Microsoft account webpage 1 device is listed, I would have thought it would list my device twice given that I
have upgraded 2 copies of Windows on it from different hard drives.

    Thanks

Activate Windows 10 with clean install

    Hi Andrè

    I have now Version 1511 build 10586.36
I downloaded the ShowKeyPlus and it shows the following:

    1st window:

    Product Name: Windows 10 Home

    Product ID: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-AA769

Installed Key: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-8HVX7 (this gave error 0x803f7001

OEM Key: OEM key not present in firmware

Testing the product key gave: Win 10 RTM Retail

    2nd window:

Product Name: Windows 8 Single Language

    Product ID: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-AAOEM

Installed Key: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-BWMQ4 (this gave error 0x803f7001

Original Key: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-PDG4W (this gave error 0xc004f014

Original Edition: Win Next Starter Retail

OEM Key: OEM key not present in firmware
    >> 2 things - Win 10 home :: Win 8 Single Language and OEM key not present
What happened: I made a bootable USB of Win 10 64 bit on the laptop (previously Win 7 Pro 64 bit) and upgraded it - activation succesful.

Then I wanted to upgrade the PC in 2 steps from Win 8.1 32 bit single language to Win 10 64 bit (1st step to Win 10 32 bit succesful - direct download and install)

Next step: used this 64 bit USB to upgrade to 64 bit. The installation did not give an option to choose Single Language
Bottom line: there is a mix-up of versions. Any ideas? Thanks

If you boot from the Win 10 DVD, you'll have the option to delete all of the partitions on the hard drive. The installer would then automatically set up new partitions. (If memory serves, I get 4 partitions on a UEFI system. One of them has most of the space available on my 400GB OS SSD.)

I'm not the best person to write a tutorial, but the install process isn't tricky.

  5. If your buying it, it should come with a COA sticker with the Product Code. Or a product code in the enclosed documentation. You would use that to activate it. If you chose custom install you will get the option to delete any and all partitions on the drive(s). Look through the tutorials section of this forum for more info.

Laptops are made up of custom hardware so you need to think about BIOS or UEFI and Drivers for chipset, graphics, wifi, ethernet, sound, bluetooth webcam etc
Are Windows 10 versions available by download from laptop OEM or for Windows 8.1 only?
Microsoft generic Windows 10 drivers may not work well - particularly Graphics, Sound and chipset for power functions, USB etc.
Look through the stickies for latest drivers on Tenforums
What may you need to back up first if the Windows 10 installation fails and you need to return laptop to factory condition?
