Windows 10: New laptop. win11 activation with win10 box key.

Hi. I'm planning to buy new laptop. I have win10 box license that I used on my old laptop. Can I use that key to activate new win11 on new laptop? Will it need an activation, if the key was linked on my Microsoft account?

Win10 Pro key for Win11

Hi,

I’m going to re-install whole OS, and switch from Win10 to Win11.

When I previously re-installed OS (Win10 to Win10, just upgrade) I used old original key for activation and it worked.

So my question is, can I still use that same key for installing Win11, or I need to by another?

Note: I’m not going to upgrade my Win10 to Win11 because it’s easier to backup data, format disk and install newer versions of the programs that I everyday use, so please write your answers only to the question above!

Activation of Win11 Clean install with Win10 product key doesn't work

Hi,

I'm located in The Netherlands and running (licensed) Win10 Home English.

I have 2nd Hard drive on which I want to do a clean install of Win11. Just to get used to Win11 and migrate slowly, app by app, to Win11.
My PC meets all the requirements for Win11 and I had no hardware upgrade in between.

I used the MediaCreationToolW11 tool to create an USB boot drive ....2 different ones.

1. One USB boot drive for Win11 Home English
   
2. One with recommended settings for my PC (then I get Dutch, which don't want, I always use English)
   

• When I use the first one to install Win11 on my 2nd hard drive, everything goes well but I can't activate Win11 with my Win10 Activation key. Not a valid key or something went wrong. Why?
  
• When I use the second one, it looks like the installer wants to upgrade my current Win10 version. I do have a system image but still, I don't want that, it costs you always a lot of work and time to roll back.

As long as your current Windows 10 installation is activated, you can upgrade for free or perform a clean install using your existing Windows 10 product key. Just make sure you are installing the Windows 11 edition that currently corresponds with your Windows 10 edition.

Is that possible only through using the second option of my USB boot drive?

With all respect but getting help in chats with Microsoft didn't work. Tried 2 times, but I gave up.

I need to find my Win10 product key on my old laptop. where can I locate it?

My old laptop will not support Win11 due to hardware incompatibility. I purchased a New Win11 laptop and want to be able to setup "Dual Boot" and retain the Win10 as I have it set up.

I have succeeded but cannot activate Win10 without my product key. Due to not being able to activate, I cannot restore WIN10 From my Back ups. My old laptop is 13 years old and originally came with win Vista.

through the years I have upgraded through win7, Win8 and finally Win10 pro. All on the same HP Pavillion DV7, but the DV7 hardware will not support Win11, thus I purchased a Win11 laptop. I have also considered "Mirroring" the image of my old laptop but am unsure if it will work with Dual boot.

So can anyone tell me where I can find the Product key and save me from having to purchase a new key?
