Windows 10: New laptop with Wifi Ac and Verizon Qualcomm router major speed drop

I recently purchased a new Lenovo Idea pad 320 with a AMD A12 processor 8 gb ram, wifi and Bluetooth with Wi-Fi AC protocol. I have Verizon Fios speeds supposedly 75/75. My router is a Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 router 802.11n 2.4 ghz. I usually got 40 Mps when testing wireless. My speeds dropped to about 1 Mps download. I called Verizon who contacted Qualcomm who advised me to uncheck WMN setting in my router settings. It helped, my speeds went up to 20 mps download and upload. This still seems really low for my connection. I looked up the router on QUALCOMM's website.
It lists the QCA9377 as. The QCA9377-3 is a single-die wireless local area network (WLAN) and Bluetooth combination solution to support 1 × 1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WLAN standards and Bluetooth 4.1 + HS, designed to deliver superior integration of WLAN/Bluetooth and low-energy technology.
The question can, and how can I set my router to the newer faster wifi AC and increase my download and upload speeds considerably? I would appreciate some advise as what to do.

WiFi drops new router

New router,other laptops and phones connect no problem. Laptop Windows 10 Lenovo connects when starting up, then drops WiFi, and says no internet connection available . Laptop was fine with prior router. No recent updates to system. All other devices work.

 

Netgear Router Model AC 6900 download speed issues

I just bought a Netgear Router Model AC 6900. We have RCN internet service of 1555 Mbps. One of our new desktops is connected directly to the router via Ethernet cable. Speed test shows download speed as 170 Mbps. However, if we use our new laptop
within 15 ft. distance of the router via Wi-Fi, speed test shows download speed as 40 Mbps. Tremendous drop in download speed. Is this a setup issue? How do we improve the download speed? Surprisingly, the upload speed remains unchanged at 20 Mbps for both
cases whether connected via direct wire or wirelessly.

Does anyone have the same unit/similar router can tell us what the problem is? Please share your experience. Appreciate a reply
