Windows 10: New machine but slow machine startup & program startup times. Is this normal?

Recently got a refurbished HP EliteDesk 800 G2 mini (16GB RAM / 2.5gHz CPU) with Windows 10 to replace an old dinosaur tower running Windows 7. It worked pretty smoothly in the beginning, then after some updates that were installed on March 21, it suddenly became much slower to boot up and start programs the first time.

(We also changed the monitor connection from VGA to DisplayPort, but because there is no lag in the mouse movement, I don't think that is the problem.)

I tried uninstalling the updates, then running chkdsk and SFC, and didn't have any luck with any of that. Finally, I just decided to do a clean local reinstall. It now works faster than it did but not quite like how I remember when it first arrived.

For example, it takes about ~36s to go from pushing the power button to seeing the Windows desktop. The native mail app takes 16s to progress from the blue screen with the envelope icon. Solitaire Suite is ~7s. All apps open immediately after being opened once. Is this normal for Windows 10 with 16GB RAM and a 2.5gHz CPU?

Slow Startup

Does anybody know why I am having really slow system startups? I don't have extra startup programs than I use to have. The only thing that I think it could be is my antivirus program. I use AVG now since I reformated 2 days ago..and every since then, I have a really slow startup..I don't know if that is the reason..Does anybody have any suggestions, on how to speed my startup? I use to be able to be on my desktop screen in like 35-40 seconds at most. And now it is way over a minute. Any help would be gr8.

Adding programs to startup with Windows 7?

You could add entries to the registry to launch the apps on startup, but it's easier to just add them to the startup foler as Newt suggested.

 

Slow Applications Startup Time

From the advanced settings interface i was able to recuperate the machines boot process and the slow startup was also fixed using some options in that menu.

The computer runs normally yet some CMD window pops randomly once in a while (shows up and vanish way too fast to either read or screenshot it) and the machine refuses to properly download and install Framework.net 3.5
