Over the last year, the Microsoft Edge team has been working to deliver an entirely new experience for people browsing the web, challenging the status quo, to expect more from a browser. We launched the new Microsoft Edge in January with a commitment to deliver more privacy, performance and productivity to help people achieve more.

Weâre ecstatic about the availability of the new Microsoft Surface Duo, and wanted to highlight just how we are innovating our browser to give you a tailored experience on these beautiful dual-screen devices. Hereâs the scoop on how to get the most out of the new Microsoft Edge on Surface Duo to stay organized, save time and stay in your creative flow.

Stay organized. Dual screens enhance web productivity

Weâve designed Microsoft Edge on Duo so you always have access to the saved content that matters most to you, while still browsing the web. You can span a website to take advantage of both screens. If you open the ââ¦â menu while spanned, your favorites, history and Collections will take up one screen so that you can easily pick up where you left off and add new content that you find along the way.

For those who like to bask in the visuals, you can also rotate your Duo vertically to maximize your real estate.

With the power of two screens, Surface Duo is also ideal for opening two instances of Microsoft Edge for on-the-go research, comparison shopping and planning. You can easily reference sites side-by-side like when you are writing your next paper, researching recipes, planning a furniture purchase, or finding hiking spots for your next camping trip.

Save time. Easily drag and drop webpage content into other apps like To Do and OneNote

When you are researching recipes for meal planning and grocery shopping, Microsoft Edge on Surface Duo makes things easier than ever. Just open a webpage on one screen, and To Do or OneNote on the other. You can select text on a webpage, like an ingredients list or recipe steps, and drag it to the To Do app. This text will preserve line spaces so each ingredient will be on a new line in your list, saving you precious time and keeping you in the flow.

Stay in your creative flow. Microsoft Edge works great side-by-side with other apps like OneNote

As we think about building new technologies, we seek to better understand how those with diverse needs, like creative professionals, work best in todayâs mobile-centric environment. As we developed the new Surface Duo and Microsoft Edge, we explored several ideas to help illustrators, designers, visual artists, students and teachers work elegantly across both hardware and software. With Surface Duo, we are now able to bring these new versatile experiences to life through the dual-screen form factor.

Now you can easily open up Microsoft Edge to research works by your favorite artists, view how-to articles or watch videos while working side-by-side in other apps like OneNote on the other screen. Microsoft introduces a Surface phone called Surface Duo

Surface Duo is the first Surface to fit in your pocket. Surface Duo brings together the best of Microsoft productivity experiences, Android apps and Surface hardware design into a single device you can take anywhere. And, yes, it makes phone calls. It has two paper-thin 5.6-inch screens that unfold to 8.3 inches, and just like Surface Neo, it can be used in a variety of modes to let you work the way youd like.

To support Surface Neo, we are introducing Windows 10X, an expression of Windows 10 designed for a new category of dual-screen PCs. With Surface Duo we are building upon Android to marry cutting edge hardware with familiar software and services. Were excited to work with developers and the industry to create the next wave of dual-screen computing and unlock a new era of mobile creativity.

The Surface Duo and Surface Neo will be coming in Holiday 2020.

New Microsoft Surface Duo Emulator Image build 2020.429.2

Hello Surface Duo developers!

Today we’re excited to release a refresh to our Microsoft Surface Duo Emulator Image.

It has been a few weeks since our last Surface Duo Emulator image release and the team has been very busy addressing your feedback and has added several new features and optimizations that are detailed below.

What’s new in updated build 2020.429.2

Support for using a keyboard in all posture and flip modes

App Drawer and App searches support

Improved Notifications support

Improved Settings and quick settings experience to support dual screens

Enhanced Camera experience (you can access that via the Emulator too!)

Several platform improvements to better support App Compat around rotation, resizing, fullscreen, and spanning scenarios

We have more improvements planned for future releases, so stay tuned to our blog for future updates.

You can access the latest update here. It is recommended that you uninstall the previous version before you download and install the update.

Open source access to Surface Duo samples and helper functions

We are excited to announce that as part of this public update, we are making our Helper Functions, Layouts, and Controls code available on GitHub: GitHub - microsoft/surface-duo-sdk: Helper library for developing dual-screen Android apps for Surface Duo and open for contribution.

This code, along with our Kotlin and Java samples, helps developers to understand how to build dynamic layouts for dual-screen devices. You can use the issues list to provide feedback. Be sure to check out our contribution guidelines first and we’d love for you to participate.

You can also find the previously published Xamarin.Forms and React Native dual-screen SDKs on GitHub.
