    I don't think so.
It looks like the adaptor comes with a gadget which can keep the 2 open ends ( the USB and the HDMI ) together for ease of storage purpose when not in use.

If you don't have a TV with an USB connector, just use a simple Phone charger to connect it...
    How difficult can this be?

I'm not going to buy a lot of extras just to use this thing. If the usb is only for power I would need to buy the adapter then I would need to buy a hdmi switch because all my hdmi ports are being used. If the switch doesn't come with a hdmi cable I would have to buy a cable. For me it's is easier and cheaper to just say no.

So far it is no better than educated guess.
Wait till it comes out to the market and check it out from the retail stores.
Then we will have concrete idea how to use it.

I'm really just interested in how this thing works and how it's different than the built in WiFi already built into my TV's.

    I am wrong.
After clicking open the link provided by Brink, the adaptor does connect BOTH ends to the TV.
    I was totally wrong.

  7. If you have built in WI-FI on your tv you would not need to use this app
As it does the same job

Wonder what type of TV has such setup at the back.
My TV is less than 8 months old and I don't have that setup at the back.

It's not an "App" its a "Hardware Miracast Adapter" with cables you have to plug into your TV and power adapter...
(What is, that not everybody in this thread wants to do...*Wink)
Wifi does not necessarily mean: "Miracast support"

My Sony TV has WiFi. Using Windows 10, I can play music, videos & photos to the TV and also cast from the Edge browser (but it's often jerky). This gadget may be useful for mirroring the PC display?

    Hi there

some DRM protected stuff such as SKY GO won't allow you to cast via Chromecast - but using a wireless display gets round the problem so again well done Ms.

Chromecast is still though an excellent device -- does a HUGE lot more than just run Google's apps -- I use it regularly for streaming local Video from a NAS server to remote TV's.

Limitation of chromecast though --1080 X 1920 HD is max you can Cast -- so all of you with those huge TV's and 4K movies -- until Chromecast gets an upgrade or a firmware change -- you are stuck.

@ Steve C - jerky video is often caused by SLOW I/O -- that's where RAID 0 comes into play - if you make an array of say 2 physical volumes into 1 logical volume (use RAID 0 so you don't lose too much data space from the volumes) then your I/O speed in therory could be 2X as fast as the single volume. Won't get that in practice but you'll certainly get significant improvement.

I'd suggest also getting a Chomecast device (in UK even with wallet sapping 20% VAT -- was that an EU tax abomination !!) around 25 GBP and even better if you get the Chromecast LAN==>wifi adapter -- here in ISL costs another 17 EUR (inc sales tax).

    UK : https://store.google.com/product/eth...for_chromecast

I'd suggest anyone who has one of these devices the LAN adapter is a "Must have" accessory -- plug into a LAN port in your cable box / router.

Unless you want to cast 4K movies this should work absolutely 100% -- even on a relatively slow Wifi connection. - Unless you have REALLY SLOW internet the lag is often caused by transcoding the video on the fly where slow I/O is a real bugbear. Using RAID 0 helps no end.

    Cheers

  12. I have a Lumia 950 and I wanna to know about the audio quality under a Miracast connection: there is not `Connect` feature with Spotify Windows 10 mobile app and I've some trouble with the bluetooth connection with my Avr Marantz using Wi-Fi and bluetooth on my Lumia at the same time
(note that Lumia is bluetooth Apt-X compatible , the Avr Marantz not).
So a miracast device on a Marantz hdmi entry could be a good alternative. But let's talking about audio quality, thanks

My laptop has a SSD so I don't think disk I/O speed is causing the laggy casting from Edge. Thanks for the tip on the Ethernet Adapter for Chromecast. This is just what I need since my TV is at the farthest point from my broadband wifi router. I have a wired ethernet connection right behind the TV so can use that.

  14. My Samsung Smart TV has at least a couple of USB ports (I don't remember exactly because I don't use them.) It has about 4 HDMI ports, of which I use 2.

    Hi there
For any serious Audio quality --FORGET Blue tooth -- not up to the job - especially if you want decent uncompressed audio (FLAC for example).

Go seriously for a WIfi speaker connection -- I'd suggest looking at some of the Bose wireless ranges. Also have a look at using something like Logitech media server (squeezebox server) for transmitting Audio. The actual squeezebox hardware devices have for a long time been discontinued by Logitech - but the server is still supported and can play into a load of decent High end Audio equipment.

Saying Blue Tooth and High quality Audio is like using the word Beer and Budweiser in the same sentence. !!!

Wifi will work for high quality Audio -- Blue tooth is a compromise - will be OK in some situations - but most definitely not for high quality sound.

    Cheers
