  1. New Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter coming soon

Indeed but I've already an high-end device , Marantz 5009, Chario speakers and a very good headphone Beyerdynamic dt880. so the point is the best way to use my Lumia 950. Spotfy Connect would be the best one because there is no data transfer from mobile device to av receiver that could stream music directy from its Ethernet o Wi-fi connection. Sadly Windows 10 mobile do not support Dlna yet even Airplay , offcourse, so my guess is that a Miracast device such as my Blu Ray Panasonic bdt-360 could be useful. Unfortunately seems not compatible with Windows 10 mobile. I can see the device but I can't connect to it. It doesn't work, yet *Wink

  2. The key to this is that the device you're broadcasting FROM must have Miracast in place. Not just WiFi -- as someone has already pointed out.

And, like others, I find that a 12-foot HDMI cable reaches from my laptop to the TV just fine.

I, for one, did not know that until you and the other member pointed it out.
    Thank you to both.

    Question :
Does this "requirement" also apply to Chromecast on PC which does not have Miracast ?

Have you tried the full screen mode in the chrome browser. It is rather well hidden - you have to click on a little pull down menu icon in the top right hand corner of the chromecast menu on the browser. Very easy to miss.

    Thank you.
Assuming the link was meant for me.

That is not I was looking for.
Allow me to explain and bear with me if it turns out to be long-winded.

I have the latest version of Chromecast.
    Connected it to my TV.
Installed the Chromecast app from Google Play Store.
All went well with my smartphone and my Android 4.4 tablet.
I can "mirror" my desktop and use the TV as my "big screen".
I can cast Netflix movie on TV and use the same device ( tablet or smartphone ) for other chores.

I cannot do that on my 2 laptops, nor can I do it on my Surface RT. HDMI cable is the only way for now.

The best I can do is to install the Video Caster and AV Cast from Windows Store. They are not what I want.
I cannot do the same thing as I can in my smartphone and android tablet.

Reading from the link you provided, Chromecast has nothing to do with Miracast.
So, my question on Post #32 is irrelevant.

I have both Chromecast and MS Wireless Display Adapter and I can tell you they are most definitely not the same! With Chromecast you can cast a tab from Chrome browser, content of an app suporting Chromecast or mirror your full screen (duplicate, not extend), whereas MS Wireless Display Adapter gives you an additional display.

In screenshot below, the display #3 is my TV through MS Wireless Display Adapter. It acts and behaves exactly as any additional HDMI display:

No it will not do the same job.

In most laptops for instance, like the Asus I am using to post this, you can only connect one external display. The MS Wireless Display Adapter allows me to use three display, two external ones. A big difference. Adding another display with another wireless display adapter would add a fourth display to this laptop, and so on.

Also, remember that the wireless display adapter don't have to be connected to a TV; any display is OK as long as it has an HDMI input and the adapter can get power from USB.

No it will not do the same job. A TV set with built-in WiFi is not automatically an external display for your PC. You need a cable, be it VGA, DVI or HDMI from the PC to TV, or a wireless display adapter.

Most modern HD TVs have a USB port for this exact purpose.

About Miracast: Almost any PC equipped with WiFi today supports Miracast technology. An easy and fast way to see if your PC supports it, if you can use a wireless Miracast display adapter is to press WIN + P; if at the bottom of display options you can see link Connect to a wireless display, your PC supports Miracast:

Rule of thumb: If the WiFi equipped computer came preinstalled with Windows 8.1 or later, it has Miracast support for 99.9% sure.

If one wanted to hook up the HDMI output from the computer to more than one monitor/tv they could use a HDMI splitter. Not as easy and neat as wireless but it would work.

How does an HDMI splitter help in extending desktop to additional displays?

I don't see anywhere in my post where I said anything about extending the screen. A HDMI splitter will work if one just wants to duplicate the HDMI output.

Using your words, I don't see anywhere in my post where I said anything about you saying anything about extending the screen. I simply asked "How does an HDMI splitter help in extending desktop to additional displays?".

You compared HDMI splitter to wireless display adapter, saying "Not as easy and neat as wireless but it would work", which might give a reader of this thread a wrong idea because these two options cannot be compared. A newbie who buys an HDMI splitter inspired by your post will most probably be disappointed when noticing that he / she can only duplicate existing display, not extend his / her desktop.

This is a news thread, read by many members and visitors, experienced geeks and newbies alike. In my opinion the information should remain valid and factual. Although your post was both, it managed to give a wrong impression.

You know, a better reply had been "Sorry, I didn't think of that".

IMO you were only trying to be insulting to me about my post. If you was really concerned about someone being mislead by my post you would have explained about the HDMI splitter only working to duplicate the screen and not for extending the screen.

Please explain me how can a question "How does an HDMI splitter help in extending desktop to additional displays?" be taken as an insult?

My only motive to post that question was to give you a chance to clarify your invalid comparison and tell that you didn't think of that. I did that rather than post "You are wrong!".

It's funny how sensitive some members here are. Invalid information should not be corrected and if it will, it's called an insult. The ego beats the common good and value of valid information.

    Nice!

It wasn't the question. It was the way your question made me feel. Why did it make me feel insulted? Nowhere in my post did I saw it would extend the display to multiple monitors/tvs. If you were concerned about someone being mislead by my post you would have explained that it wouldn't work for extending the display instead of asking a question you already knew the answer to. If I took your reply in the wrong way I apologize. If not I don't want to get myself into any trouble on this forum so I'm done on this subject.

Signing out from this conversation after this:

You very clearly compared a wireless display adapter to an HDMI splitter:

The comparison is wrong and might mislead less advanced users, therefore my question.

Really, why don't you just forget your ego for a moment and admit that the comparison was wrong. It happens to all of us but apparently admitting it is impossible to some. It can't be true that you keep arguing about this.
