Old: z590 prime, i9-11900k, 64gb DDR4 windows 10New: z790e, i7-14700k, 96gb DDR5When I boot I receive "inaccessible boot drive" BSOD. I attempted to update the BIOS, same. Attempted to reinstall Windows via USB, same. I'm stuck in a boot cycle that won't let me do anything aside from shut down or access BIOS. Attempted command prompts to scan/fix, same. I'm kind of at a loss here.

    :)

New mobo, cpu and ram, same old os help

Either my mobo or my cpu are not working. After removing, reseting, changing PSU, I cannot get even a single beep from post boot. The system is 10 year old so I decided to get new parts. New CPU, new mobo, new PSU and new ram. I really badly want to keep my old win 10 os. Is this possible and if so, what steps do I need to take to make it work successfully? Edit, I purchased the same Manu of mobo if that helps.

  3. Changing my MOBO and CPU a

I'm doing PC upgrades and changes entirely for my new mini-itx build.

I'm not sure about how the process would work, but what are the appropriate steps I need to undertake before making my changes?

    • My personal data and files are backed up to my Onedrive, and have nothing to lose in terms of data.
    • I have an additional copy of Windows 10 (but would prefer not to use it in-case I do another PC build).
    • My MOBO and CPU upgrades are polar opposites of my current hardware:
      • OLD HARDWARE
        • Intel i5 6500
        • AsRock Killer MOBO
      • New Hardware
        • AMD Ryzen 7 2700x
        • Asus Strix X-470
This is my first time doing a particular change so guiding steps would be greatly appreciated! Things like how to wipe my hard-drive and reinstall Windows, etc.

Install Windows 10 on new drive after Mobo/CPU upgrade

    Hello all.

I'm aware that you can use the MCT to install windows on a new drive under an existing license. I have a small twist on that scenario, and wanted to see if there was a way to utilize my existing license, or if I would need to purchase a new one.

I have a desktop computer on which I swap a component or two out every year or two. I liken it the the ship of Theseus. My mobo and CPU were getting old, and I decided to upgrade to an i7-137000, a mobo that can run it, and DDR5 RAM... On trying to boot, I entered an 'Inaccessible Boot Device' loop, even after flashing BIOS and trying a few other things - the BIOS could see the CPU, boot partition, and RAM, but just wasn't booting. I've been advised that it is possible something happened to the boot drive, and reinstalling Windows is a good next step.

I've just purchased a new SSD, in case the former boot drive itself was damaged.

So ... with all the new hardware, am I able to utilize the existing license? (Win 10 Home 64bit)
    Thanks in advance!
