Hello, I recently bought a new monitor for my laptop. When I connect then by hdmi cable. Everything is fine until I launch a game. It is alright in the game for a few minutes then the screen will turn black and my laptop will restart. This has been happening for 2 days and it’s getting really annoying

Laptop display and monitor will not wake when HDMI cable plugged into laptop.

I have a laptop. Lenovo ideapad FLEX 4-1480 Signature Edition.

The laptop has a display, and the laptop is connected to a monitor via an HDMI cable.

    Sleep mode is disabled.

    Screen timeout is enabled.

I lock the computer. The laptop display and monitor both eventually deactivate.

I move the mouse and press keys to wake the monitor. Nothing happens on either the laptop display or the monitor.

If the HDMI cable is not plugged into the laptop, the laptop display will wake as intended. The problem happens only when the HDMI cable is plugged into the laptop.

I have to remove the HDMI cable from the laptop, wait a few seconds, reinsert it, then the laptop display and monitor will wake. Again, the laptop display will wake just fine when the HDMI cable is not plugged in.

  3. Cannot connect HDMI Monitor with laptop

    Hi!

Thanks so much for your response, Carmack!

I figure out the issue and want to share it with others. I used a USB - HDMI adapter and HDMI - HDMI cable to connect my laptop with the monitor. I removed the adapter driver (my laptop's functions are irregular when the driver exists). Now, I use a miniDP - DP cable to connect to the monitor. The problem is solved.

New monitor and when I connect it to my laptop via HDMI cable and when I launch a game...

HDMI cable not detected by computer

I want to connect to a monitor or TV with HDMI. No signal to either. Monitor says "no signal coming from your computer".

I have tried with no success:

    • HDMI directly into Nvidia 980 HDMI slot
    • HDMI directly into motherboard slot, Intel i6700k with integrated graphics
    • HDMI indirectly into HDMI(female)-to-Displayport(male) adapter, into Nvidia 980 Displayport slots
    I have verified:

    • Cable plugged into second computer, connected fine to monitor and TV
    • Tried different HDMI cable, same results on both computers
    • Displayport slots on Nvidia 980 work on monitor with DP-mDP cable
    • Both monitor and TV are 4k. Output is 4k on other computer, and 4k using Displayport on this computer.
    • Used newest graphics driver for Nvidia 980
    • Used old graphics driver (2020) for Nvidia 980
All cases, other computer connected successfully and this computer received "no signal"

Other than the hardware checks and the driver checks, I am not sure what other steps I should try.

Since it applies to both Nvidia 980 and motherboard, and since Displayport works but HDMI through Displayport doesn't work, I feel like there is some issue in the computer working with HDMI signals.

    Thanks, Ahmad
