    New motherboard and CPU

Ok I think I am having to give up on what on earth is wrong with my Ivy Bridge build (2012) and replace the board (and CPU) with either of these
Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming3 ATX 1151 Motherboard GA-Z170X-Gaming3 | shopping express online (impressive price) or
Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3 ATX 1151 Motherboard GA-Z170-HD3 | shopping express online again impressive price
    teamed with this
Intel Core i7-6700 3.40GHz LGA1151 CPU BX80662I76700 | shopping express online - not planning on any clocking.

I have had an Asus board P8Z77-V in Ivy with a i5 3750K and I am very tempted to go back with Gigabyte as the Sandy Bridge is still going strong on a Gigabyte with a locked i5.

Don't game just watch Youtubes email forum etc etc and am not impressed really with the Asus board.
I ant to keep to Skylake / Z170 chipsets because I am not really interested in screaming performance or any of the incompatibility crap that I see happens with the Kabylake stuff and the B250 chipsets well to me it seems out of control now. Plus my budget is limited at the moment even if I was interested. But I would like an i7 and not the i5 core unless someone can convince me that the i5 Skylake CPU's are as good as the i7's.
It was an experience to play around with overclock but really is not an absolute necessity to me.

So any ideas and thoughts welcome oh and the RAM I was looking at 8GB at any speed and reasonably priced like these

Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Memory Kit CMK8GX4M2A2133C13 | shopping express online

If the DDR3 board is ok then I have a stack of spare DDR3 matched pairs.

    :)

Upgrading motherboard, RAM, and CPU after installing Windows 10. Problems?

    Hi Ms. Shankarappa,

Thank you so much for your response! I really appreciate your help.

    I have one more question:

I'm currently using an AMD CPU and motherboard. My new CPU and motherboard are going to be Intel, with i5-4690k CPU. Since this is such a dramatic change in CPU and motherboard (different makers), do I need to uninstall my drivers, shut down, switch motherboard,
and CPU, and boot up for windows to install new drivers for new motherboard and CPU, as described in this video?

Thank you again for your help! I only have a limited amount of money for this build, so I'm just making sure that it'll work for sure. Thank you again!

    Best regards,

    Clancy

Trouble with Windows 10 activation. Surprising, huh?

" ... suddenly isn't activated, after changing my motherboard and CPU."

Your Windows 8.1 license entitled you to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. When you changed your motherboard and CPU, you created a new computer
for the purposes of activation. New computer = new license.

DDR3 is OK for your needs. An i5 6600 will suit your needs though but the extra four threads of the i7 will help.

The opposite, I had problems with several Gigabyte Z77 boards (I had three replacements under warranty). I've built PC's with others such as Intel, ASRock and ASUS. The best luck I had was ASUS so when I recently upgraded to an i7 6700K, I went with an ASUS Z170 ROG Maxiumus VIII Hero. I don't game but I needed all the rear I/O panel USB ports, for my home recording studio.
