    New Motherboard - Ethernet port LEDs don't turn on.


    In my previous mobo, the ethernet port's green and orange LEDs would always be lit. Even if the computer was powered off.

    But i noticed that this new mobo doesn't do this. I connected the network cable, but LEDs won't turn on.

    Is there something wrong?

    Windows 10: A network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken

    I don't think it's broken...my motherboard is brand new, everything is new.

    How do I check if the port or broken or not properly seated?

    There are a lot of variables to consider and some missing details. Are you sure this connection is active and should work? Are you sure the new port has LEDs? Is the port disabled in the BIOS? Do you have the drivers installed for the port?

    Green LED shows a connection - Orange LED shows traffic...

    So yes when a LAN is connected they should be on..

    Dumb question: does the network card require a CPU to be able to recognize network activity?

    You will need a CPU to power on and boot the motherboard. If you have no CPU installed, you aren't going to be able to do anything.

    The mobo actually turns on without the processor, all fans work, HDD works, DvD drive works... but the network LEDs don't.

    I don't have the CPU yet *Biggrin, it will arrive next week, i'm unable to check the BIOS.

    But could the lack of a processor be the culprit?

    Yep, i knew this question would sound silly.
    But i really didn't know a mobo needs a CPU even for the most basic tasks such as lighting an LED.

    I'm still very noob and this is my first ever attempt of swapping a mobo. New Motherboard - Ethernet port LEDs don't turn on. :p
