    I just installed the update for Version 1709 and created a New recovery drive right after the update. I am Running windows 10 pro. I hope someone can tell me if this new recovery will have the new operating system or if it going to use the the old recovery partition that came with my computer, if so I just did a lot of work for nothing.*Smile While I am at it can you tell me a good free software that would back up my entire hard drive to a USB flash drive that I would be able to copy to a new H.D. in case of a drive failure.     There are some compatibility issues with Windows 10 version 1709 and certain hardware or software. There is no explanation why a lot of these problems are happening in Windows 10 1709, but the release is significantly flawed. Software and Hardware that once
    worked in previous versions, just suddenly stops working in Windows 10 1709 after an upgrade and sometimes loses functionality or stability.

    Recovery partion and recovery drive on win 10

    I use an HP Envy which I purchased with Win 8.1. Have since upgraded to Win 10 , creators update (1709). The recovery drive on my pc (D) is dated 2014, ie pre win 10. I do not want to go back to windows 8.1, 1, can I replace the 8.1 recovery drive with
    windows 10 1709 and if that is possible, how do I do it ?

    2, I would also like to create a USB recovery drive as an extra backup, what size USB do I use and which format ?

    3, If I use recovery (after creating it) will it restore windows to the latest version of windows and remove early updates which are now incorporated in the latest version ?

    New Recovery Drive With Version 1709

    The recovery drive should have the version of Windows 10 on it that you created it from. So if you created it version 1709 installed, that's what it should have on it. The Windows recovery drive is not created from any recovery partition, it is created from files contained on the C: drive.

    Macrium Reflect Free is the highest recommended backup software on this forum:

    Make sure you also create a Macrium Reflect Free rescue drive from within the Reflect program.
