  1. New SSD not functioning, issue persists across multiple new SSDs, and flash drives.

Hi all,I recently went to install an M.2 SSD into my motherboard, but once it was seated, and my PC turned back on, I've been unable to use it. The drive initialises, but when I create a simple volume it hangs, and eventually tells me that the disk management is out of date. I've done the process through diskpart as well, but to no avail, it complains about referencing an out of date object.I first tried this with a Samsung 990 Pro 2TB SSD, nothing. Then a flash drive plugged into the USB port. Nothing. Then a Crucial T500 4TB SSD. Nothing. Then a SECOND USB flash drive, nothing. It's getting

  2. New windows 10 installtion on New SSD - wont boot unless old SSD present

It seems you installed Windows while the both SSDs were connected. This would have caused your current problem. Maybe it is sufficient to do this:

    1. Launch the Disk Manager.
    2. Right-click drive C:, then mark it as "active".
    3. Shut down Windows
    4. Open the BIOS and tell it that the new SSD is the primary boot device.
    5. Disconnect the old SSD.
    6. Boot up normally.

If this does not work then you might have to do this:

    1. Disconnect the old SSD.
    2. Re-install Windows on the new SSD, using the Media Creation Tool.

    new ssd drive

Hi William, you have 2 options

    1

If the new SSD is of the same size or greater than the old drive and you can connect both drives to tour system, you can clone the old drive onto the new SSD

This will save you having to re-installall your Software and moving all your files, it is not however the best option for a new SSD, because you are basically copying over any problems that existed in the old version of Windows 10

If you choose this option, you can use the free version of Macrium Reflect to perform the cloning

    2

Backup your data and clean install Windows 10 on the SSD - this will gt the best form the new SSD and result in a responsive and clean system.

You can reinstall Windows 10 at any time and it will not cost you anything !

Since you previously had Windows 10 installed and activated on that PC during the installation process skip the steps which ask for a product key and select the option 'I am Reinstalling Windows 10 on this PC', and activation will not be an issue, your PC will
have a digital entitlement stored on the Microsoft Activation Servers

Make sure you install the same Edition of Windows 10 (Home, Pro . . . etc.) you previously had installed to avoid Activation issues

    Click this link:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), you can create a bootable USB flash drive (min 8GB) using that tool

Then, Boot your PC from the Installation Media you just created (change Boot Order in your BIOS) to begin installing Windows 10

If you have problems booting from a boot disc, you may have UEFI BIOS:

Insert the Bootable Installation Media, then go into your BIOS and make the following changes:

    1. Disable Secure Boot

    2. Enable Legacy Boot

    3. If Available enable CSM

    4. If Required enable USB Boot

    5. Move the device with the bootable disc to the top of the boot order

    6. Save BIOS changes, restart your System and it should boot from the Installation Media
