I was going to swap out my old ssd to my new one. So i transfered my files from my old ssd to my external harddrive, then i installed my new ssd and transfered the files from my harddrive to the ssd. Now the ssd shows up as too different drives and none of them is max capacity of the ssd. And the same with my harddrive. SSD: samsung evo 979 Plz help

  2. Different drive selected as system?

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is Jan. I'm an independent Microsoft Advisor and a user like you. I'll be happy to help you out today.

I suggest disconnecting first the SSD then try to boot to check if you can still boot if the SSD has been formatted. As it is tagged as system drive, Also backup

files before formatting the drive to avoid data loss.

One easy workaround is to boot your pc with a USB installation media,.

    Click install now

next > advance> prompt (where do you want to install the windows?)

    Then open "drive options"

It will show a list of disk and options ( from there you can format your ssd)

Once formatted "cancel the installation". and remove the USB.

    Important

*Make sure that you choose the correct drive. And you already back up your files before doing the steps to avoid data loss.

    Macrium Reflect and SSD drive

Here's an easy way to do it, With your SSD connected.

    1. If not already done. Create a backup image of your current Windows HD. From Macrium, click on "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows"
NOTE: you could actually clone the disk, but create a backup then restore will allow Macrium to correctly align the cluster size and perform trimming on the new SSD.
    2. After step 1 is done, click on Restore tab, select the image from step 1 then click on Select different target disk, select the SSD as destination disk then click on Next->Finish. No need to use/boot from Rescue disk. It will be faster and Macrium will also perform trimming on the new SSD.
    3. Disconnect the HD and reboot. Windows should boot up with the new SSD.

New SSD shows up as two different drives.

Upgrading HP SSD drive on HP 750-524

I purchased an HP Envy tower with a 128Gb SSD which is where Windows is installed, I have purchased a new 1TB SSD drive that I would like to replace the 128 GB drive with. My machine did not come with the Windows 10 Media, what steps do I need to take before
I install the new drive and install windows.

    • Where do I get the Windows 10 install
    • What steps are needed to create an Install disk
    • Do I have to deactivate my old install before removing the old drive.
Please let me know if there are any other considerations.

    Best Regards,

    Wes
