New stats show Windows 10 is close to 50% market share

Microsoft launched Windows 10 in July 2015, three years ago from now. Earlier this year, analytics firm StatCounter revealed that Windows 10 has surpassed Windows 7 for the first time and the latest data from the firm has another good news for the software giant.

The latest report from analytics firm StatCounter shows that Windows 10 is close to 50% market share. StatCounter has put Microsoft’s latest operating system on the leading spot in terms of Windows market share.

According to July 2018 numbers from StatCounter, Windows 10 is the number one Windows version and its market share has increased from 46.75 percent to 47.25 percent. Windows 7 continued its decline, as it dropped from 39.63 percent in June to 39.06 percent last month.

The data suggests that if Windows 10 maintains the same growth, it may surpass 50 percent market by the end of the year or even before. Not only Windows 7, but XP and 8.1 are also losing ground.

It’s worth noting that the increase in adoption of Windows 10 could be a result of the feature updates released by the software maker. For example, Windows 10 April 2018 Update was released to users earlier this year and it could have convinced users to give the OS another try.

With Windows 7 approaching the end of support, it would be good for everyone if this decline accelerates. Microsoft has already confirmed that the 10-year-old operating Windows 7 will be retired in January 2020 and the company will continue to polish Windows 10 as part of Windows as a Service (WaaS) approach.
