Can upgrade VMWare guest? And some supplementary questions

have you considered becoming an insider and running the insider preview in a virtual machine.

insider previews will still have expiry dates and new builds will be launched before expiry, but you will be able to go straight to 64 bit on a new VM and keep your other virtual machines as they are.

the free offer is an upgrade, you cannot continue to use the license on another machine even a virtual one.

being an upgrade, you need to install it from within a qualifying product first, you will then be able to do a clean install, so your last option wont activate.

if you want to continue using windows 7 your options are -

1) become an insider, run windows 10 insider preview in a new VM

2) buy a windows 10 license ($199 pro or $119 home)

Correct. Previews are beta builds and things may be broken. Just don't use a preview build on your primary or production computer(s). Use a preview on a test box or a virtual machine. Be prepared to have to reinstall Windows from time to time and without
warning when you are using a preview build.
