New W10 Pro installation locks up.

    Hi,

    Running 20H2 build

    19042.867

Recently did a complete re installation on a news SSD

From time to time it just stops.

I have a few DCOM errors but one error pointed to possibly the Windows Driver Foundation so I went hunting.

I cannot find WUDFSVC.dll on this machine.

SFC/SCANNOW reported it had fixed errors but still this dll is missing and the Windows Driver Foundation service does not exist.

There are copies of the dll so can I copy and hope?

    Ideas please.

    :)

Cannot locate custom Lock Screen images in W10 Pro 1809

    Success.

Here is the solution, but it is imperative to proceed carefully.
There are also a couple of final steps that are missing and I had to think about it.

Retrieve Custom Windows 10 Lock Screen Image - Super User

This must be done as Administrator (True Administrator account) -

You must add "Administrator" to the additional fields not listed to get through the permission issues caused by NTFS.

Edit - I'm posting the missing steps:

There's quite a bit going on here, but the important item to understand is that for each "picture" folder, you need to add yourself as Administrator.
Just click on "Select a principal" and enter Administrator as the Object Name for each folder you wish to gain access to.

Hope this helps. Thanks for your help, Shawn.

Microsoft should not have any user going through this just to find a picture. It is insanity.

    W10 Home > Pro

    Question:

right now I made a bootable USB for W10, off my current installation which is a W10 Home.

Monday I'll use that on my new rig but I want to move to W10 Pro on that one. Is this possible with my bootable USB setup? My guess is that you just re-pick your version based on the activation code, amirite?
