Windows 10: New Western Digital 4TB Noisy

Hello

Recently purchased a WD Black 4TB hard drive to replace an older 1TB WD Black drive as needed more storage space for some more files, anyways it makes this like chunk sound every so often, Crystal Disk info shows no problems, Passed Short test, long test i may do tonight, then after that my updated system image is planned, was gonna do it today, but i slept in longer than i planned to

From what i read around various forums, the noise might be by design with Preventive wear leveling feature of the drive from Western Digital, but not 100 percent sure on that yet

To better assist you, please clarify the following:

• What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
• Have you tried using another computer to access Western Digital Nask?

I have 2 of those drives and they certainly work. Download and install the current version of WD Smartware from Western Digital.

You also might be having a problem with the USB3 driver if that is the connection you are using. Check in Device manager under USB devices to see if the USB3 device is listed by brand name or if it is using a generic MS driver. If the driver is generic go
to the website of either the computer manufacturer or the maker of the USB3 device and download Windows 10 compatible drivers from them. If there are other Windows 10 drivers or software updates offered for your computer you might want to download those as
well to install as needed.

After downloading the USB3 driver, uninstall the generic USB3 driver, then install the downloaded USB3 driver and reboot. The USB3 device should then be automatically redetected and the correct driver installed.

 

Western Digital SSD Dashboard Install issues

Heard back from Western Digital, but there steps still failed, waiting on call back now from Level 2 support, but have a feeling isn't gonna help any. From there forum area looks like not only user having issues with the dashboard program.
