New Windows 10 computer - apps are so tiny when installing?? Help!

    Hey everyone -

I just purchased this computer from Lenovo (http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops.../y700-15-inch/) and have finally had some time to start transitioning my old computer's files over to this new one. As I've started re-installing some software programs such as iObit Uninstaller, I've noticed that several of these apps are showing up SUPER small and are barely legible.

Now, I've tried the ctrl+/- shortcut along with a few other "tricks," but this seems to be an actual problem. I've also uninstalled and re-installed the software just to make sure there wasn't some weird bug, but to not avail.

I had Windows 10 on my previous computer and never experienced such an error. I don't even know what to Google to search for such a problem.

Seriously, any help would be much appreciated as I have no idea what to do! The app iObit Uninstaller, for example, is appearing so small on the screen that I can barely read anything, let alone use the program.

One last thing: my resolution is set to the default 3840 x 2160

    :)

Application icons won't scale rendering software unusable

I bought a new Dell XPS13 with Windows 10. I can't use certain apps that I really need due to icons being tiny, tiny, tiny. Some are so small they fit under the tip of the cursor icon and can't be scaled larger.

I have tried changing the screen resolution, individually changing the size of fonts and icons using the advanced features, changing the display scaling. Nothing works. I refuse to upgrade any other machine I own to Windows 10 until I get a way to fix
this. As a low vision user having icons so tiny that they're unusable is absurd. It's just not possible to use an app like a video editor with the magnifier. I get headaches using my apps.

I have spent hours looking through forums to see if anyone has a fix or workaround for this and so far nothing. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

    Have you tried this?
Start button > System > right side, under Change the size of text, apps, and other items, move the slide to the right side.
On my one laptop, the slider has ONLY 3 settings:
Slider at extreme left is 100%
    Slider at middle is 125%
Slider at extreme right is 150%

On my other laptop, the slider has ONLY 2 settings:
    Extreme left is 100%
    Extreme right is 125%.

I don't know why there is the difference in settings between my 2 laptops. May have something to do with resolutions.

Alright so maybe I'm a dummy, but I have no idea where Start --> System is? What is that? Do you mean Settings?

So I just saw it in Settings --> System. However, if I raise it above the recommended 250% then the whole screen gets out of whack and everything is way too big. I don't think this will work even though it seems like it would be the answer. Anything else?? This is just too weird. Every time you get a new computer, weird shit happens...don't understand it.

    Ultra HD (3840 x 2160)

That may be one factor to your problem. This could be mitigated by lowering the resolution to 1920 x 1080, briefly, for the software installation.

The other factor is the software writers have not taken advantage of scaling techniques in anticipation of ultra hd resolutions; not enough users to justify the cost of retrofitting their software.

Ah interesting, that could be why some apps are working normal and others like the iObit Uninstaller are not. I changed it to the resolution you mentioned, but still the same issue. Weird. Maybe I can play around with some other resolutions or contact the app itself.

Okay, so now this is becoming slightly concerning (as in why did I buy with ultra HD if nothing works). Check out the screenshot below from ESPN.com and how small the buttons at the bottom are. Does anyone know if others have been reporting this issue? I did find this article, but it didn't have a workable solution for me:

I've only had one software program that has not scaled well, from installation to usage: Auslogics Disk Defrag.

So, following the link's instructions, (and some users' comments that followed -- tres importante), the deed was done in less than five minutes. And the trouble program scaled to readability. Any blurriness from the scaling was not discernable by me.

A minor side effect was the loss of running the program as an administrator. It wouldn't let me run it, offering me a warning, until I changed a setting in the shortcut.

****** Users' complaints and Dan's additional solution was that the manifest .txt be saved in UTF-8, instead of the default ANSI. In file-naming, I took the precaution of replicating the upper- and lower-case of the executable. AND, I did not have to associate .manifest to any particular program or app, not even Notepad.exe.

My sample size was one and it was successful.

How many programs have you had to use this on? For me, it's look like a lot. Superantispyware, iTunes, R Studio, Firefox, that iObit Uninstaller you name it...probably a good 30% of my programs. I'll just follow in the instructions later and see. It looks like Matt's comments are pretty good.
