Windows 10: New windows 11 PC copied a onedrive folder to documents folder on hard drive

I purchased a new windows 11 PC. Once it started up, I noticed that the "this PC / Documents" folder on hard drive had been populated with data from one of my onedrive folders. I have folders named A, B, and C on onedrive. When new PC started up, it had taken the contents of folder A possibly because it was first alphabetically? and placed all the contents from that folder into the "documents" folder on the hard drive. I also noticed that when I look at my "onedrive personal" from this new PC, there is a folder on it called "documents" that I never created my folders on onedrive were

OneDrive and two PCs Documents Folder

Hello, I have an older Dell All-inOne PC running windows 10. I keep most of my files in the - This PC\ Documents folder. I started using oneDrive to backup my Documents folder. I think when I set this up I just copied the This PC\Documents folder to OnDrive so I now have OneDrive\Documents. I always work on the local Documents folder and periodically get any new files to OneDrive\Documents as a backup.

I recently got a new Lenovo laptop. After logging on the first time I realized that my OneDrive files could be seen/accessed from the new Lenovo. But now on the new Lenovo I see that my local Documents (This PC\Documents) seem to be populated with all the OneDrive\documents files. I'm not sure how they got to my local hard drive (This PC\Documents). Are OneDrive files automatically copied to my local Documents folder? Thanks - Brad

 

Why is the Documents folder in OneDrive showing up in ''This PC''?

Hi gurus,

Need help to fix this problem.

1) I have setup a new laptop with Windows 10 Home OS.

2) But in the File Explorer, the the Documents folder under ''This PC'' is the Documents folder in OneDrive. It's not the local Documents that is local in the hard drive of the PC. There is already a OneDrive group that has this Documents folder.

3) This is causing confusion. How can I change the ''This PC \Documents'' to be the one that is residing locally in the hard drive and not the one in OneDrive?

Add a Folder from Windows 10 HDD

Ok yea, just use a shortcut. Right click the folder you want to show in documents and select "create shortcut" and move that shortcut to the documents folder.

If you copy folders to documents, the entire folder contents is copied, use shortcuts instead so you dont use up hard drive space having duplicate folders in 2 separate places.
