Windows 10: New Windows OEM key not working after rebuilding my PC

Hey I've just recently upgraded just about everything, minus my hardrive, ssd, and graphics card. I knew I needed to buy a new OEM version of windows 10 so I went ahead and bought windows 10 Pro OEM from walmart. However it does not appear to be working, I keep getting the error code 0xc004f050. I tried running the troubleshooter but that won't work either and I don't have any updates pending.

Windows 7 OEM key

Does anyone know how to get a OEM(Toshiba) windows 7 key to work on another PC? Contacted Microsoft to help and they wasted an hour of my time.

"Flavors" of Windows licenses

Windows can be a little "odd" about license keys. There are at least 4 categories:

• Retail
• OEM
• Volume (electronic download)
• Corporate (no key needed)

For guaranteed success, the license key and media should be in the same category. If you have retail media, you may not be able to install it using an OEM or Volume license key, even though the key is valid for that version of Windows. *Wtf :wtf: Apparently, this is part of Microsoft's anti-piracy scheme (i.e., all customers are guilty until proven innocent).

 

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild

Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.
