Windows 10: New Windows PC

A few days ago, I was given a PC with Windows 10 installed but NOT activated. I hooked up a monitor, mouse and key board. I called my computer guru and asked if it was necessary to connect to the internet. He said it would be a good idea, so I did.

After turning on the PC, it started asking questions and I thought "this is going to be easy". Was I ever wrong. It asked me personal questions that I don't think Microsoft any right or need to know (such as birthday).

Another thing I found out is that Microsoft thinks everyone in the world has a cell phone. I don't have one, never have had one and never will have one.

At first it did NOT like my email addresses it asked for (both legitimate emails). After four hours and multiple attempts to activate, it gave me a work around that sent me a code to my email and from there I was able to activate Windows.

It should never have taken that long or created so much aggravation. If there were a good alternative, believe me "Microsoft" would NOT be in my vocabulary.

Now I have the chore of making sure everything is up to date. Then start installing an uninstaller, extra browsers etc. There will be very little installed on this PC. It will be my wife's PC and she does not use much.

windows xp installation and dual core am

could someone please list the steps they follow to install windows with a dual core processor and windows xp service pack to. I'm reletively new to amd dual core and i feel i'm missing a step. All help will be appreciated. thanx

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region


I got these suggestions from the Microsoft Community forum.No. 1 worked for me:

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
3. Select add someone else on this PC.
4. Enter a user name and hit next.
5. Click on Finish.
6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.
