Windows 10: New WinRE partition

I have recently extended the recovery partition on Windows 10 to solve the 0x80070643 error problem. This allowed Windows to install the updated WinRE. When it did so, Windows assigned a drive letter to the new partition. I have found that the new partition is not protected. Should it be? If so, what settings should be used?Should the drive letter be removed? There was no drive letter before with the old partition.

Thanks Adrianne, it makes sense but also weird because the first time I noticed the Winre partition was when I was in Disk Management. It showed the system partition on the left, My OS in the middle and on the right my WinRe. Is this something new they just
added in a recent update?

 

New drive partitions have appeared- WINRE and \\?\Volume{cd60b... ?

Hi, Can ANYONE tell me why WINRE AND \\?\Volume{cd60b... have appeared on my Drive as partitions. Have hard Drive C AND Recovery Drive as normal. The two listed suddenly appeared as Drives.

W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

- press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
- diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
- list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
- select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
- clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
- create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
- exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
- click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that
