Windows 10: Newly installed Windows 10 won't let me transfer over license.

I have a non-OEM version of Windows 10 Home upgraded from a non-OEM version of Windows 7 Home during the free upgrade period. Recently I built a new PC with new motherboard and everything. I did a clean install of Windows 10 Home on it. I read that people who got retail copy of Windows 10 through free upgrade from Windows 7 are still eligible to transfer their Windows 10 license to a new PC. Before transferring, I deactivated the product key from my old computer but when I entered it in my new PC, I got denied, said something about my product key cannot be used with this version of Windows.


So I'm wondering is this because since my product key is technically Windows 7's and the free upgrade period has expired?

Nope, you need to install Windows 10 first and make sure the Windows 7 key is transferred to your Windows account after you've installed Windows 10 (not quite sure how that works). I missed the last step and I could not activate Windows 10 after a re-install... Microsoft seem to have done everything they can to make it a PITA. Also, it's technically too late to do this now anyhow, as the upgrade offer has expired. But KMSPico works quite well...

As for getting rid of Windows, delete the Windows folder.

i bought the license. My laptop was originally loaded with win 7 and was upgraded free couple of months.

in this case, if i understand you correctly, i can transfer with below steps. Right.?

and to my question do you have an update.

does OS upgrades if my activation key is changed.
