Windows 10: News and Interests widget not responding and Microsoft edge not working properly

The widget's settings aren't "clickable". Whenever I hover over the widget it expands and shows me a bunch of useless junk. I was hoping to be able to filter the things I'd be more interested in. However, when I click on the settings gear icon on the top right corner of the widget it will lower a settings menu, but I can't click on anything there. It won't let me change settings or notifications.The same thing also happens to me with Microsoft edge. Even though I turn off the notifications for almost everything it will not display my "interests" that I pick from Edge's settings. I get that I c

Microsoft Edge isn't working properly

Step 1:

  Open the Task manager. Here’s a tip: Press CTRL+Shift+ESC.

  Right click on Microsoft EDGE.

  Go to details click on microsoftedgeCP.exe and click
  end task.
  

If the issue persists, follow the below step.

Step 2:

I suggest you to perform DISM commands to Repair corrupted files. Follow the below steps:

• 
  Press Windows + X keys on the keyboard, select
  Command Prompt (Admin) (Enter if any credentials prompted).
  
• 
  Type the following command and try to repair corrupted files.
  
  Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  

If the issue persists, follow the below step.

Step 3:

Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region


I got these suggestions from the Microsoft Community forum.No. 1 worked for me:

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
3. Select add someone else on this PC.
4. Enter a user name and hit next.
5. Click on Finish.
6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.

 

Microsoft Edge ,"Not Responding"

• Is this issue specific only with Edge browser?
• Does the same issue occurs with other browsers as well?
• Do you have enough internet connection speed to browse?

This kind of issue might also occur if you have very slow internet connection speed, or if you have any server related problems.

As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest you to try the below and check if this helps.

Method 1:

I suggest you clear the Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

If issue still persists try method 2

Method 2:

Try to run a System File Checker (SFC) scan to check for any file corruption.
SFC scan will scan for corrupt system files on the computer and repair them.

• Press Windows key + X, click Command Prompt (Admin).
• In the Command Prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
  
  sfc /scannow

If the issue still exists, try the next method.

Method 3:

You may check the same issue with the new user account.

Try these steps to create a new user account and check if it fixes the issue. Refer to the steps below to create a new User Account:

• Go to Settings.
• Choose Accounts and then select Other User Accounts towards the left.
• Select Add an Account.
• Enter a user name and hit Next.
• Click on Finish.
• Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.
• Check if issue persists.
