How to: Allow or Deny OS and Apps Access to Pictures Library in Windows 10

Allow or Deny OS and Apps Access to Pictures Library in Windows 10 [IMG]
Information Starting with Windows 10 build 17063, you can now allow or deny Windows 10 and apps access to the pictures library on your device (PC) for all users.

If you allow access, users on your PC will be able to turn on or off if their apps have pictures library access. If you turn on to allow apps access to your pictures library, you can choose to turn on (allow) or off (deny) access for individual apps.

This tutorial will show you how to change Privacy settings to allow or deny Windows and apps access to the pictures library for all users or only your account in Windows 10.

Allow or Deny OS and Apps Access to Pictures Library in Windows 10 [IMG]
Note Starting with Windows 10 build 17083, Microsoft is giving you more control so you can now decide which UWP apps can access your pictures, videos, or documents folders. If a UWP app needs access to any of these, a consent dialog will pop up prompting you to accept or deny the request. If you deny access to a particular folder, to protect your privacy that UWP app will revert to only being able to access its local app folder.

Quick Access not searching Pictures folder

Summary, that last suggestion didn't work.

    • I moved the pictures to another folder temporarily.

    • Since there were no troubleshooting steps for this scenario, just for the heck of it, I ran through the restore steps. Copied some pictures into the Pictures folder, ran a Quick Access search and initial problem remains: Searching all of QA doesn't find any files in Pictures folder, running search on just the Pictures folder does. I want to run a global search and find matching files in any/all of the Documents, Music, Videos, and Pictures folders.
That article dates from 2015 and I'm guessing is out of date. I hope it didn't create potential future problems in my registry.

Bottom line: I'm still looking for a fix.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    Change Folder Destination access Denied

    Thanks.

After following the steps suggested, I get the message "Access denied" in command prompt.

Please advise how to allow permission.

  5. Access denied on My Pictures after installing windows 10

These steps do not work for me, same situation as questioner. In step 5), it directs to: "NEXT CLICK ON EDIT AND CHECK ALL THE BOX UNDER ALLOW."
Every box of mine is already checked. There is no "apply" button to press, as stated in step #6. i still cannot open my PICTURES file.

    NOW WHAT?
