Windows 10: nForce 630i SATA AHCI mode - Cannot use MSAHCI driver

System is Packard Bell Imedia S3720 with the infamous nForce 630i chipset. I don't know why but I cannot use MSAHCI driver. Computer enters a loop and doesn't work well. With SATA nForce driver it works but it seems unstable at best (and also trim function dissappeared from Defragmenter).

Any ideas?

IDE mode in bios works perfectly but I have an SSD.

This issue occur due to the NVIDIAGeForce 7100/NVIDIA nForce 630i
Graphic Card driver may not be compatible or corrupted.

I would suggest you to uninstall the NVIDIAGeForce 7100/NVIDIA nForce 630i
driver and reinstall the latest NVIDIAGeForce 7100/NVIDIA nForce 630i
driver in compatibility mode in Device Manager and check, if it works.

Let’s follow these steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode.

1. Download the latest NVIDIAGeForce 7100/NVIDIA nForce 630i
Graphic Card driver from the manufacturer’s website.

2. Right-click on the setup file and click on "Properties".

3. Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode” and select previous Operating System from the drop down.

4. Click on ‘Apply’ and click ‘OK’ and run the file to install it.

How to get AHCI working

the registry location is

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci

go to the value labeled "Start" and set it to 0

so step by step process
1. Edit the registry - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci, go to the name Labeled "Start" and set the value to 0
2. Reboot the system
3. go into bios and set your sata to ahci mode
4. go back into windows and let it detect the drives
5. Let it reboot

 

Windows boot manager doesn't recognize AHCI/SATA SSD

This is not the case as the BIOS doesn't recognize disk in AHCI but Windows is already configured with msahci driver.

As BIOS can't boot it directly because it doesn't see SATA disk so I would like to have a helper bootloader which boots from USB and then chain loads windows from SATA drive. HP will not help as the PC is out of warranty and the bug in BIOS won't be fixed.
