  1. No access to USB storage devices [USB / SD CARDS / EXTERNAL HD]

    Hi all,

I have been smashing my head against this problem for several weeks.

My current PC does not read / have access to reading any SD CARD / USB from my USB ports, like literally any of them.. I have isolated this to justthis PC and not the USB / SD CARDS as other devices Windows 10 Laptop, MBPro2016 both could successfully read the contents of the external media.

The PC can see that the device is there and can recognize what it is, but cannot actually access the folder path. I noticed when I plugged a USB in, it shows 2 drives, one being a disk drive? Yet, both are unreadable in storage explorer.

I have tried the following solutions to no avail...

    • Configured Registries

    • Reinstalled Windows 10 ISO Keep Apps & Files

    • chkdsk doesn't work, says i need to elevate permissions, even though I am calling it from Sys32

    • I have Formatted the external medias, renamed them, Assigned allocated partitions to them, etc etc.

    • Formatted the medias on the windows 10 laptop.

    • Checked BIOS to see if anything has screwed up there.

    • Uninstalled Root USB Drivers

    • Uninstall ALL USB drivers

    • Attempted to update drivers

    • Played with Power Settings

    • Reinstalled all USB drivers

    • Played with fast reboot settings

    • SFC in cmd prompt

    • Many more, but I don't exactly remember.

    • Scanned registries with Ccleaner

    • Scanned with Windows Defender Full

    • Scanned with Malwarebytes

I don't think I can do a clean install of windows 10 as I can't backup my storage to external media, and backing up 5TB to the cloud with Australian NBN is not a preferable option either.

I did have Forticlient uninstalled recently from this device and looking there, they have a known bug:

    519098

Potential wrong block state for USB access after FortiClient Windows was uninstalled.

I really hope to find a solution as I have been struggling with this for quite some time and it's affecting my workflow.

    :)

  2. Samsung Focus Recognized as a USB Mass Storage Device

    Hello Giraffy,

First I would try to reinstall the Zune Software on your PC - if this does not help I am afraid that I have to suggest removing the SD card and reset the device to factory defaults and check if the device would be recognized properly. Using non–Windows
Phone 7 Compliant SD Card in your device is not supported scenario and it might be the cause of your issue.

Please see more details about Windows Phone 7 Secure Digital Card Limitations here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2450831/en-us

When you connect Windows Phone 7 to your computer it should be listed as a Windows Phone USB Device in Device Manager. USB mass storage is not supported scenario on WP7 and the phone cannot be accessed through Windows Explorer. I know that there are
registry hack to enable the USB mass storage, but again you will get into the unsupported scenario again.

    Best Regards

    Martin V.

Cant access USB or SD cards

    Hi michaelrowanwhite,

Is it only happening for removable storage or to other input devices as well? Is it detected by your computer but not showing on File Explorer?

You can try step below and see if it can fix your issue.

Step 1. Connect the USB flash drive or external hard drive to PC, right-click on "This PC" (in Windows 10) and choose "Properties".

Step 2. Click "Device Manager" then expand “Disk drives”. Find and right-click the problematic USB drive and select "Update driver"

Step 3. Click "automatically search for driver software online".

Step 4. Wait for the driver to be updated, then reboot your computer. Afterward, you can try to reconnect your USB drive to PC and check whether the USB drive shows up or not.

Let me know how it worked for you.

No access to USB storage devices [USB / SD CARDS / EXTERNAL HD]

Symwave to Demonstrate USB 3.0 External Storage Solution at CES

A major update and commercial introduction to the USB technology has been long overdue. While most devices such as printers, MFDs and other office automation equipment seem fairly comfortable with the bandwidth USB 2.0 offers, with storage solutions where large amounts of data transfer is involved, USB needs a facelift, so much so that companies are slowly gaining interest in technologies such as eSATA.

At the upcoming CES event, Symwave is planning a demo of an external storage solution based on the new USB 3.0 "SuperSpeed" technology. The device it plans to demo could be an external hard-drive or an enclosure with USB 3.0 compliancy. With 10 times the available bandwidth (4.8 Gbps or 600 MB/s), the new technology looks to provide devices with both performance and backwards compatibility with older USB standards. The Symwave storage solution will be one of first devices the technology kicks-off with.
