Windows 10: No alt codes doesn't work

I am trying to add some special characters using alt codes on my laptop running Windows 10. None of the codes work.

I tried random alt codes to see if the problem was the specific characters and none of them work.


I am using an external numpad because my laptop doesn't come with one and doesn't have the Numlock option on the keyboard. The numpad is working properly for input


Steps that I have done:

1. Turn off the 'Use Mousekey when Numlock is On' as per this post my default was Mousekey off altogether. I know that other advice suggested otherwise turn it on instead. But that doesn't make sense for me because then I couldn't use the numpad for its default use. I also used the alt codes at the office with a keyboard+numpad and I think the Mousekey was off as well.


2. Adding EnableHexNumpad to the registry


Please let me know if there are other things I could do or what the cause might be.

I`m sorry I had not noticed that the text on the picture was in spanish. It says that windows has replaced some damaged clusters in "name" file and "directory". Then, at the end "an unspecified error occurred (75736e6a726e6c2e 4f6)".

I`ll do it and I`ll be updating this thread when I have the report.

It does do that, mlee. All buttons have tooltips with the alt code and a description listed in it.

The masculine ordinal number in Spanish, Italian and Portugese? I'm not even sure what it is for ... lol

I deleted all my data. I had have it backed up.

I did a clean installation using the windows media creation tool (usb option).

No, I didn`t. I thought a clean installation would solve the problem.

After posting my previous message, I did it.





After chkdsk, I close cmd and tried to boot and the laptop just turned it off. This morning I`ve restarted it and automatically windows did a repair. Windows has booted and it seems that the repair tool has removed chrome and acrobat pdf reader (the only two programs I had installed after reinstalling windows).

Now Windows is installing updates and restarting my lapop, I`m kind of frightened. I don`t want it to happen again. Anyhow, I want to know what has brought the issue

I`ve been looking for information about the error code at the end of the picture and I didn`t get anywhere.
