No audio devices after Windows update

Kirk B1 posted in October 2024 and FERNANDO MANUEL OLIVEIRA LOPES posted in January 2025 about this subject, but the threads are now locked. I, too, have been without audio devices since the October update and finally have them back today after installing a driver called the Intel Smart Sound Technology BUS - version 10.29.0.11633, which was released in November 2024. Windows Updates, HP Support Assistant and HP Image Assistant HPIA couldn't find anything out of date and multiple calls to HP Support went nowhere. I only found this driver after starting a free trial of CCleaner Professional,

    Hi,

I realize that you are facing driver issues and application issues after the anniversary update. I will try to help you with this issue.

Suggest you to update the audio driver and display driver from Device Manager to check if that helps.

Follow these steps to update the display driver:

    - Press (Windows key + X) and click on “Device Manager”.

    - Expand “Display Adaptor”.

    - Right click on the video driver and select “Update Driver Software”. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Follow these steps to update the audio/sound driver:

    • Open Start, enter Device Manager, and select it from the list of results.

    • Under Sound, video, and game controllers, select your sound card, open it, select the Driver tab, and select Update Driver.

    Thank you.

  4. No audio devices after Windows update

    Re-enable audio device

    Hi,

I would be happy to assist you.

Before we proceed with troubleshooting, I would need little information on the issue.

    • Are using speakers / head phones to listen to audio?
If you have disabled the audio device, then you might not see it under the list of playback devices. I would suggest you to follow these steps to make sure you see the disabled devices:

      • Open
        Control panel
        .

      • Click Hardware and Sound and then Click on
        Sounds.

      • Under Playback tab, right click on the empty area and make sure
“Show Disabled Devices” has a check mark on it. If headphones/Speakers are disabled, it will now show up in the list.

      • Right click on the device and
        Enable it. Click OK.
If the issue still persists, try enabling speakers automatically using steps below.

    • Go to Settings> Click on themes> Advance sound settings> right click on the speakers or the audio device youo have connected > click on
      Configure device.

    • Test the sound level you want, click Next.

    • And configure the audio devices.

Hope this helps you. Do reply if you need further assistance on Windows 10.

    Thank you.
