Windows 10: No audio for my laptop(HP Omen 15-dc0xxx). It's working correctly according to the system...

built-in speaker is a Realtek speaker


About yesterday was in the middle of a match and I am not exactly sure whether or not it was before or right after I installed an automatic windows update, but I was in the middle of a video game and the sound just died.

the volume is up and when I open the volume mixer with some sort of video turned on the volume of the speaker and apps is moving up and down in a correct manner. If I go into device manage and look at each audio device there is no telltale sign (exclamation mark or warning mark next to each device) of a problem each device description says that each device is running normally.


The one thing I have noticed is if I go into the events tab of each audio device there is this event

this goes for both my built in microphone and speaker. If I test both individually the microphone is having an input and the speaker is having an output albiet I cant hear it at all.


I have gone through several forums and lists on how to fix it.


I've done audio troubleshooting, there was no problem detected.

I cannot rollback the device driver, so maybe that means it wasn't a driver update that caused the problem.

i have attempted uninstalling each device and rebooting windows.

I have unistalled each device have gone to the laptop manufacturer's site to find the latest driver and installed it same result. Tried this through the manufacturer of the actual speaker same result.

I attempted to rollback to the previous windows build, didn't fix it for some reason, I might not have had a proper rollback point set up.(There was only one option)


I can hear through the speaker jack if I connect my earphones to it quite well.


All in all this is quite frustrating and causing me a lot of trouble and I would like to find a way to fix this today if possible.

Realising that technology has had quantum leaps each and every year, I suppose gaming laptop is at par with desktop nowadays ?
