No audio in playback devices when Xbox Wireless controller is ON

    Hello,

Windows shuts down any audio playback device as soon as I turn on my Xbox Wireless controller that is connected via USB wireless adapter dongle.

    I've checked the following:
    - playback devices (my main one is a USB DAC which has his own driver) that are correctly set as default.
    - enabled and disabled playback devices while the controller is ON.
    - disabled all other playback devices and left only my main one (USB DAC).
    - checked mute and volume options everywhere.
    - selected the USB DAC as playback option in "App Volume and Device Preference"
    - updated the controller's firmware to it's latest one through the Xbox Accessories App.
    - turned the option "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" ON and OFF for my USB DAC.

    Some notes:
    - to get sound back on my USB DAC I need to either restart the PC or log out and log in again; disabling and enabling the playback device doesn't work.
    - if I connect the controller through via USB cable the issue doesn't occur, it only occurs with the wireless adapter.
    - when the sound stops, Youtube videos or any video streamed from a internet browser doesn't play.
    - I have a wireless mouse connected to the PC (Logitech 305) and it doesn't mess with the sound whatsoever, ruling out any issues with the motherboard or the USB ports.

I'm running Windows 10 Home Edition ver. 2004 (retail license). All drivers and OS updates, are the most recent ones available.

I've tried every tutorial I can find on the net with no luck whatsoever. Hoping somebody here is aware and knows a solution for this.

    Thank you !

    :)

Xbox Controller is not connecting to Wireless Adapter

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I appreciate your time and patience to work on this issue. To have a better clarity on the issue please reply to the following questions:

    • Are you using an Xbox one controller?

If you are using an Xbox one controller, I suggest you to refer the steps in the article

How to connect an Xbox One Wireless Controller to a Windows PC
and see if that helps in resolving the issue.

I would also suggest you to uninstall all the hidden devices under USB hive and check if you are able to connect the wireless adapter. Please follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the hidden drivers:

    1. Press and hold the Windows + X key on the keyboard.
    2. Select Device manager.
    3. Click View tab.
    4. Select Show hidden devices.
    5. Expand Universal Serial Bus and remove all the greyed out devices. To remove the greyed out devices, right click on the device and select
      uninstall.
    6. Restart your computer.

Please reply with the status of the issue, we will be glad to help you further.

  3. Xbox One controller not working wireless - Device could not be migrated

This thread from Reddit may help you. It appears that the Xbox One controllers can utilize two drivers; Xbox One Controller, and Microsoft Xbox One Controller.

The thread has other troubleshooting steps, but the two main (and most popular/successful steps appear to be as follows)

    Method 1

    Method 2

Hopefully this helps. If not, there's something else awry, and other troubleshooting may be needed.

    EDIT: Per the asker's request;

I'm not sure if this solved it or if it was just a weird side effect of changing the drivers version forward and backward again. When connected via USB cable it said "Xbox controller", changed that to "Xbox gaming device", unplugged the USB cable, and the wireless stuff started to work for whatever reason... No idea why!

Wireless Xbox One controller requires PIN for Windows 10.

    Hi,

You will be asked for a PIN when connecting your wireless Xbox One controller via Bluetooth on Windows 10 if your Bluetooth drivers are not updated. It is also possible that you have to reset the controller to remove the PIN. To resolve your concern, restart
your controller by following the steps below:

    • Power off the controller by pressing and holding the Xbox button on the controller for 6 seconds.
    • Press the Xbox button again to power it back on.
    • Connect your Xbox Wireless Controller to your PC using a USB cable or the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows.

You can also update your Bluetooth drivers by following the steps on this
    link
    .

Keep us updated with the results after performing the suggested solutions above.
