    Hi all,

Since late July my computer ran into sound problems. Out of nowhere the sound would be scratchy, screechy with tons of static disturbance through speakers and headphones which became unbearable. I wish I could remember if I did something - but honestly I don't think I did.

First thing I tried were obviously the basic troubleshooting steps including running the wizards and driver update checks in device manager. This did not solve things. Then thinking the cause could be related to out of date drivers on other devices, I did the same for these and updated other drivers - still no fix. During this time I also installed windows updates and tweaked some settings - still no fix.

Few days later I had no sound audio at all. Kept on getting a constant RED CROSS on the volume icon bottom right taskbar and the 'audio inputs and outputs' and 'Sound, video and game controllers' in device manager could only be seen when i selected 'show hidden items' and saw CODE 45 in properties. Something was blocking my sound card/motherboard from connecting with the audio drivers. Occasionally after a lot of fiddling I could get sound back - but it was short lived as if the computer were to awake from SLEEP or if I was to restart it then it would revert back to the original problem.

I TRIED EVERYTHING. Uninstalled and re-installed audio drivers either manually or auto, tried SFC scan on command prompt which did find 1 corrupt file and said it fixed it but still the audio problem continued. I then resorted to doing a clean reset of windows (keeping my personal files) which basically reseted the software - AND STILL NO FIX. Something deep in the system had transferred across or just lay dormant to torment me further.

I then thought the IO card could be defective. I REPLACED IT WITH A NEW ONE 2 days ago and I GOT SOUND BACK - but again left it for a few hours / awoke from sleep I think -- resorted back to the RED CROSS !!!! AHHHH!!!! ( so the IO sound card was not defective). I tried connecting my usb to it and it picked that up so the new IO board is fine.

Just today I opened up my computer and checked for lose wires etc - looked fine. I unplugged and reconnected a few things including battery. GOT SOUND BACK and white audio sound symbol bottom right!!!! but.....again...same thing happened....computer went to sleep....I refreshed screen and red cross. in device manager realtek audio stuff disappeared and in control panel realtek audio manager did too.

Please save me from despair. I'm at the last stage before oblivion and at a turning point. I do not want to fork out £ to buy a new motherboard as my gut is telling me it's NOT a hardware issue and more of a setting fault issue affecting the hardware . Can anyone recommend an ADVANCED troubleshooting step or suggest other settings that I can delve into to find the source of the problem. It could be corrupt permission perhaps. Please do not suggest the generic fixes that come up on the google search as I assure you i've already tried these.

Is there another test I can do to make the system detect and fix the problem. Can anyone recommend ANYTHING else I can do or suggest where else to look for clues ?? Everything else works apart from the bleeding audio!! I'm quite techy so don't be afraid. I can't believe there isn't anything else suggested on microsofts website.

    SPECS:

    Windows 10 OS

    ASUS X555LA (<<<of course it is...problem brand!!)

BIOS 310 (up to date according to model/website...thought about updating but can't)

ANY HELP APPRECIATED - I know others are having this problem like me so think of it as helping them too.

    :)

  2. No Audio Output Device is installed

My laptop runs on a windows 10 OS .Yesterday i saw a red button with a cross like an X on the speaker icon located at the taskbar, which reads, no audio output device installed but my sound driver is up to date and from the device manager, under the general,it
says this device is working properly, but the laptop doesn't play any sound. No sound from speaker, headphones and headset Earphones.

I tried troubleshooting but the report was audio services not responding .

No Audio Output Device is Installed

    Hi

I have upgraded from Windows 8 to 10. Now I have no sound. When logging on I noticed

the Volume icon below in the taskbar had a little red cross next to it "No Audio Output Device is installed".

When I clicked on the Volume icon, it went directly the troubleshooter. The troubleshooting was unable to automatically fix all of the issues found. by attempting to download drivers, stating problem with a device. Device manager states "no drivers installed".
I tried updating the drivers in Device Manager, but had the same result as using troubleshooter.

When I open "Manage audio devices" and under "Playback", it states No Audio Devices are Installed.

When in Device Manager I clicked onto Sound / Video / Games Controllers.....Sigma Tel High Definition Audio CODEC dropped down. No yellow flag was attached signifying a problem.

Would appreciate some advice...However please be patient as I am not the most PC savvy person in the world.

    Please note, I am using a Dell PC....Dimension 3100C.

No Audio Output Device is Installed

    Hi,

You will need to select Windows 8 from the drop down list while installing the driver in compatibility mode.

I would suggest you to try setting the speaker as default audio output by following the steps below and check if it helps.

    1. Right click on the sound icon on the right bottom corner of the taskbar.

    2. Select "playback devices".

    3. If "speaker" is not set as the default device, highlight it and click "set as default".

    5. Save the changes.

    Let us know the result.
