Windows 10: No audio playing through headphones when I plug them into jack and continues to play...

I have a pair of sony headphones that I have used with my computer. Whenever I plugged my computer in, a pop-up menu would ask me if I would like to switch over to headphones. I checked don't ask me again and my computer speakers won't switch over to my headphones. I've tried uninstalling the audio driver and updating it but the computer doesn't seem to detect it. Is there a way to enable the pop-up window again, or a way to make it so the computer will automatically switch over to my headphones?

Win10 not playing audio through headphones when plugged in

Alright, so the new update has apparently broken crap again, because why could Microsoft ever leave stuff that works alone?

Here's the issue: when I plug in earbuds/headphones or unplug them from the audio jack, the OS no longer automatically switches the default audio device to properly play sounds. In other words, if I plug headphones in, sound will continue to play through the speakers, and if there was sound in my headphones, audio will not switch to playing from the computer's speakers when I unplug them. This means that I have to go into my sound options and manually change it so that sound will play through my headphones when I plug them in, or so that sound will play through the speakers when I unplug them. I missed several audio alerts because of this, so I am really not happy right now. Not sure if any Microsoft staff are on these forums or not, but I'm getting really sick of the updates constantly breaking everything.

Anyway, if anyone knows of a way to fix this, I'd appreciate it.

 

Audio playing through speakers while headphones are plugged in

I have just got a new HP Spectre and I have discovered that when I plug headphones in the sounds continues playing through the speakers despite the laptop recognising that I've plugged headphones into the audio jack.

Going into the volume mixer nothing is muted. Both my Speakers and Headphones are described as Conexant ISST Audio.

Going into the playback devices my headphones are set as the default device.

I cant seem to run audio tests on my headphones while I can on my speakers.

Running troubleshooting on my headphones reports that Issues are found with Audio not responding however none of the other potential issues are present.

headphones play but do not register as a device and external speakers keep playing

i plug in my headphones and the realtek popup tells me i have plugged a device into the audio jack (also how do i keep that from popping up and making a tone every time?) and audio plays through mu headphones but audio also plays from the external speakers.
additionally i cannot find the headphones listed as a device. i am using skullcandy headphones connected by a m-m cable and a hp pavillion.
