Windows 10: No auto keyboard for PASS to start the TABLET. Is it still usable?

I had terrifying moments. The Keyboard did NOT appear automatically on my ASUS ViVo Tab Smart tablet with Win10 when I tapped the PASS box to enter my Pass and to start the tablet. The same story - after switching the tablet OFF and ON many times.

With my dummy knowledge of computer matters there was now no way for using the tablet better than as a $500 paper weight. Luckily I recollected that a year ago I played with a Bluetooth keyboard with this tablet (never since) and luckily this connection still worked and I entered the Pass via Bluetooth and immediately activated in the tablet the Windows Tablet mode which fixed the problem.

My tablet got into the computer mode, where the screen keyboard did not appear automatically, as a result of downloading and installing a Norton virus protection application. It was done by a Norton associate but apparently the Norton is just set toward the computer mode.

What I try to understand and what I am asking to explain - Is it possible to activate a TABLET in the situation as I described (the tablet is in a mode with NO auto keyboard and a Pass must be entered to start it) IF NO BLUETOOTH keyboard is available? This could happen with many of us.

Automatic tablet mode switching doesn't work at power up

I have a Surface Pro 3. The "When this device automatically switches tablet mode on or off" setting is set to "Don't ask me and always switch." I can attach and remove the keyboard, and the tablet mode switches on or off depending on whether the keyboard
is attached.

However, I can find no setting that lets the tablet START in tablet mode depending on whether the keyboard is attached. When I power up, the three setting options are tablet, desktop, what it was last time. If it's going to auto-switch, it really ought to
switch on power on.

 

Tenting turns keyboard off

OK the PC starts out as a clamshell but the display can be rotated 360 degrees. As rotation passes 180 degrees, the display shows a tablet, a crude tablet icon appears, the keyboard/touchpad turns off and "entering tablet mode" appears even though tablet
mode is turned off in settings.

So this is intended behavior but makes it impossible to just use with an external monitor as just a keyboard (folded 360 degrees and display down).

I suspect it can be turned off in the registry but does anyone know how ? YWTK
