I have a Canon inkjet printer and have been using it for 5 months to print from my laptop, and just this week, it stopped printing. I printed one day and the very next day it would not print; I did all the trouble shooting, it is turned on (lol), unplugged/replugged
the printer from outlet, unplugged/replugged from laptop, it has paper, has ink, cleared printer spool, updated driver, uninstalled/reinstalled. (the final result is, it will go to the que, but says there is an error, (it is set as default). I did all the
trouble shooting and none of it worked, so the last option was to talk to someone. The scanner part still works to copy things, but printer from laptop does not work. Does any one have any suggestions?

windows 10 Version 1607 removed Canon i960 printer that had been working, how do I get working again?

Thanks for your help. I have one nagging question in my mind.
The print driver that I have had in the OS has been working for several months.
Why after the recent update of Windows 10 1607 did things changes for my printer?

I have tried to look into the specifics of the Canon i960 driver that is currently being used to determine an identifier to see which version is being used but at this time I don’t the knowledge to find how to see that identifier.

    Today (8/13/16) I restarted computer

    - I tried running the Printing Troubleshooter

    • Its results were “Troubleshooting couldn’t identify the problem”
    - Opened Windows Settings and then chose the Devices.

    • It showed the Canon Inkjet i960 along with all the other printers & scanners.
    • Selected Canon Inkjet i960
    • Opened queue
      • Nothing was in the queue
    • Managed the Canon i960
      • Issued a test page
        • “Printing” appears in queue but eventually a pop-up on lower part of my screen shows: “Error printing on Canon Inkjet i960,
The printer didn’t print Test Page”
        • The Printer queue initially showed “Printing” but after several seconds it changed to “Error – Printing” in the Status column.
        • I deleted the Print to clear the Print Queue
      • Issued another test page
        • “Printing” appeared in queue but eventually a pop-up on lower part of my screen shows: “Error printing on Canon Inkjet i960.
The printer didn’t print “Test Page”.
        • The Printer queue initially showed “Printing” but after several seconds it changed to “Error – Printing” in the Status column.
        • Ran the Printing Troubleshooter: it’s pop-up shows: “The troubleshooter made some changes to your system.
Try attempting the task you were trying to do before. The “Problems found” shows: A print job in the print queue is preventing other print jobs from printing
Fixed. However the Print Queue still shows the Test Page in the queue with a status of “Error – Printing”.
        • When I issue another Test Page, it appears as the top item in the print queue with no status and nothing prints.
          • When I delete the bottom item, the top item initially shows “Printing” but that eventually changes to “Error – Printing”.
          • I cancel this item and the Print Queue clears.
    • With the Print Queue empty, from the Print Queue window I bring up the “Properties”.
      • I select the Maintenance Tab and then select View Printer Status
        • A window appears showing Canon Inkjet i960 – LPT1. This window indicates that it is “collecting printer status”
          • The Print Queue window shows the following entries:
            • “Status Inquiry” with status “Printing”
            • “Status Inquiry” with status “Error – Printing”
            • “Status Inquiry” with status “Deleting – Error – Printing”
          • These 3 lines cycle through the Printer Queue many times but eventually this window disappears.
    • Selected the Canon Inkjet i960 and removed the device
    • Selected Add a Printer
      • I clicked on “ The printer that I want isn’t listed
        • “Add Printer” window appears
          • I chose “Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings”, then clicked on “Next”
            • Selected “Use and existing port:” and “Next”
            • Chose Canon Inkjet i960 from the lists and “Windows Update”
            • Chose Canon Inkjet i960 from the lists and “Next”
            • “Which version of the driver do you want to use?” appears.
I select “Use the driver that is currently installed (recommended).
              “Next”
            • Continue until Canon Inkjet i960 appears on the list of devices.
    - Restart PC

    • Tried everything as done previously and got the same results.
    - Brought up Device manager, opened Print Queues, right clicked on Canon Inkjet i960 and selected “Update Driver Software…”

    • Update Driver Software – Canon i960 window appears
      • Selected : Search automatically for updated driver software
      • It returns with “The best driver software for device is already installed.
Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date”.
Your instructions to install the driver in compatibility mode:
I don’t know which window in order to “Right click on the driver setup file”.
I brought up the Device Manager, opened Print Queues, right clicked on Canon Inkjet i960, selected Properties but the window that appeared (Canon Innkjet i960 Properties) only has 4 tabs and none of those is ‘compatibility’.
